Yeah, it's a quarter mile drag strip straight-a-way. It's a great track with nice elevation changes in the back. What's your ride now Paul?

Looks like fun...and it also looks like I better shore up the cooling system plus fabricate some brake ducts. Fortunately I have until July to figure it out, right? :)

Like La Junta is any better, turn 1 is 120+. Weeeee...:D

It's time to get serious Erik, serious fun!

Yowza...my top speed at SCR was only ~95mph on the back straight, courtesy of the T25.

Says the man with all the safety gear... ;)

I'll have to seriously think about whether I'm willing to accept the risk level on these faster tracks given my current safety setup (or lack thereof). I have no cage, no fire suit, and my helmet isn't SA rated. It may be prudent for me to wait until I've invested a bit more in that area.

AutoX isn't nearly as demanding. :p

You've only had a year and a half to get ready. LOL
Why wait? It's not like the car goes fast by itself. Take your time, if you get nervous remove pressure from the right foot. :D Both tracks for this year have gigantic run off areas compared to SC. So in a way, it's better.

Most of the safety stuff, minus the cage, can be taken care of with one phone call. "Hello, SafeRacer? Yes, i'd like to blow my paycheck." :D

Autocross is cool, but it's like going to Elitch's and staying in the kiddy area. There's way more fun to be had.

I noticed that there seemed to be a lot more runoff room...but the speeds are also higher.

When's the last time you saw a slalom on a road course? And AutoX courses are different every time... You have to nail a course you've never seen before in only 3 (sometimes 4) attempts, but you just keep going round 'n' round the same course if you're doing trials.

I'm not saying AutoX is cooler than time trials, but they present different challenges. Come do some AutoX with me this year. I'm going to try to get the car out to trials. :)

Not saying anything bad about AutoX but I think it's boring to watch, and doing one is only moderately fun. I didn't like the "put it in second and keep it there" theory.

Agreed, it's not terribly exciting to watch--but neither are time trials, IMO. I really enjoy the challenges of AutoX, and it's pretty low-risk as well. The big downside is that you don't get nearly as much seat time as you would on the track...and you don't go nearly as fast, either. :p

LOL, Erron's paycheck.

True, they do present some challenges from the standpoint of the course is always changing. What's more challenging to me is being able to figure out where to go next in the sea of orange cones. That was way harder than the course IMO.

There's always a slalom, viper, vette, and mustang, then out the key!
I will come and do some autox, but not with the car. I'll bring the kart.:D Wanna co-drive?

For me, it's not *really* the seat time, or competition with others. It's that feeling in my heart/balls when you have to make a turn at warp speed and all logic in your brain says you're gonna crash, but you don't. It's the success in overcoming my own fears that bring me back time and time again. Every night before a big event, I lay awake and fear for the worse. I get to sleep by telling myself that *I* am the one controlling the car. That *I* am the one that determines how fast it goes, when it goes, if it goes, when to brake, when to pass, and when to win. :D

Fear is what makes me drive accurate, adrenalin is what makes it fun!

I thought the 'sea of cones' was intimidating at first, but I learned to do my walk-through in such a way that I have the course memorized before I ever drive it. I can sit in the grid and visualize the course, making note of where I think the car needs to be at any given moment ("late apex this one, square off that one...", etc.) Memorizing the course is the easy part, really. :)

Admittedly, I'm a chicken-dropping when it comes to being around other vehicles. :p

So you picked up a kart? Sure, I'd love to co-drive it! I'd need some practice time first, though--I've never driven a shifter kart before. Karts get hit pretty heavily by the PDX--I'd probably get Slowest Time of the Day with the index... :D

I've got some great gear just collecting dust. I'm not ready to sell it, but if you need to borrow a suit, helmet, and gloves for a couple events, I'm willing.

I'm not into sharing socks and underwear, so you are on your own there:p

Thanks, Justin! :)

I'm working hard to get the car ready in time. Hopefully I'll be doing some TIG welding this weekend, as that's one of the biggest remaining obstacles.
