Hello,

I'm trying to get some ideas on how others have re-wired their stock 1g fans.

I tried the http://www.vfaq.com/mods/wayback/1gcoolingfan.html switch mod, but that will only work if you don't have the A/C compressor hooked up, as it turns on the entire A/C system.

In looking at the wiring diagrams in the FSM, there seems to be no way to wire up a switch to manually turn on the A/C fan without also turning on the A/C. This is of course assuming that the stock wiring is intact, which is my goal.

How have you guys wired your fans?

Thanks,
Craig

There is a temperature sensor down at the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side. When the coolant gets hot, the switch is closed and the fans come on. You could wire a switch to thar pretty easily :D

Exactly.
Not just any switch because of the high current draw, you'll burn up $1.25 toggle switches. Insted of running a relay I got a breaker from Home Depot, designed for 30 amps of 110, and use it like a switch. Won't burnish the contacts and it's wired in parallel to the thermal switch. Works just like normal as far as comes on by itself when hot, but when I want to, I can overide it and keep the fans one with the breaker.

Good luck!

I just wired both the AC and the Rad fan together They both kick on at the same time. Of course I don't use my AC though. Whats cool is my engine temps. The needle is at about 11 o'clock maybe a bit lower. It used to be dead on 12 o'clock. When it reaches 12 the fans kick in and take it down the temp quick. This is with a massive FMIC too.
