I haven't the time to elaborate much - 5.7L LS1 V8. Some mods.
Just back from the body shop after almost 8 weeks:

Looks great Mike! Bet you're glad to have her back. Now for some turbos...

You can say that again. :D

ya some turbos on that thing would be really nice! I raced a '06 6.0 liter one at the track and that thing didnt have a chance against me. But with some turbos im sure it would be a different story!

Yeah - with a 12.8 @ 106, you've got 6mph on a stock LS2 GTO.
Give me a couple of weeks, gentlemen. We'll see what this thing is capable of. :)

I got a visit from the Boost Fairy today. :D

If all goes well, I'll install it next weekend.

Gotta order that separately - but I won't install the turbo without it.

You're boosting the goat? That's going to be downright unholy.

Yeah - STS and a nasty big cam. Got my supporting fuel mods and upgraded valvetrain, too - gonna try to spin her up around 7000 RPM. :D

Well hopefully you learned to drive since the last time......hahahahaha....j/k

That was unecessarily harsh, joke or not. Especially since it wasn't Mike's fault if I remember correctly (crap on the track?).

Ehh, whatever, you know? Lots of circumstances to what happened at PMI, not all of them driver-dependent.
People's tongues wag; I'm not worried about it. When they're in my situation, they'll be singing a different tune.

WOW! The "project monster" has begun.
A boosted LS1 is going to be just SICK!

Hell, Boss - I'd be insulted if you didn't drive it at least once.

That much power and stock size tires? I'm off to speculate in rubber futures...
Doric
August 9th, 2006, 06:24 AM
Actually, stock is 245/45/17. I'm currently running 275/30/19 in the rear. I have 265/40/18 BFG drag radials as well.
Not that I think any of that will keep the tires from spinning. :D

Whoa, a 30 profile tire? That's crazy talk! :p
You're going the wrong direction if you want to keep the tires from spinning--think big ugly sidewall. ;)

I didn't know you could make tires out of electrical tape.
Doric
August 9th, 2006, 03:05 PM
Yeah, I know. If I could get my hands on some 15" BMW stockers for cheap, I'd run some full-out slicks.
But damn the 19s look good out back.

I can't fault you there--the width is what makes them look good to me, though. :)

Yeah, I'm with Erik, as much as I've loathed Pontiac in the past, and even laughed at the GTO when I first saw the press pictures of it, yours has gone so far as to make me actually want to own one. It's just a fantastic looking machine. After you slap that turbo on it, I'll probably be making offers. :D

Awww - thanks, guys. I'm adding 20 points to your eRep. :D

No need to chuckle, it's not a Pontiac.
It's a Holden Munaro. :D :D :D
Now spin them tires mate!!

Well, Phase One took all bleedin' weekend, so I didn't get to install the STS. :(
Did get the cam installed and raised my redline (and shift points) to 6800 RPM. Believe it or not, she's still pulling like a freight train at that point! Score one for pushrod engines. :D
Cam specs are 238/232 .606/.600 on 114lsa. I installed it advanced 4 degrees. Stout dual valvesprings, chromemoly pushrods, adjustable double-roller timing set, blah, blah, blah.
Phase II next weekend, I think.

You know that jackass V8 owner who can't get his car to idle right in gear? The guy that kills it backing out of his parking space, starts it up, revs it to the moon and spews black smoke and unburned fuel all over the place as he leaves?
Yeah. This week, I am that guy. ;)

Now all you need is a late 70s "Smokey and the Bandit" TA in the front yard to complete the package :-).

Yeah, well - I need a car that idles first. :D

I'm curious--why did you install the cam advanced 4 degrees? I assume you mean the lobe centers are 4 degree advanced relative to the crank?

It's what the manufacturer called for. >shrug<
Makes for a torquey powerband, I gotta say.
Idle issues are for the most part sorted out, so I drove it around a bit today. Watching the tach needle swing 800 RPMs beyond redline is a wee bit nerve-wracking still. :p

I still think we need to pull it out and put a turbo cam in.
Sounds good though.
