My Mac has been running slower lately. I've been searching for Freeware cleanup programs, but can't seem to find any. I'm running OSX (not 10.3 etc.) and usually run Firefox as my browser. I'm sure I've seen cleanup programs posted before, but can't seem to locate any of them. Any help would be great.

Most of the time unix boxes don't need "cleanup" like pc's do with spyware/viruses and such. First off I would just clear your firefox cache and cookies. If that doesn't help, open up the terminal and clean out your home folder. There is usally lots of hidden folders in there with caches and preferences. It's just like 'c:\docs N settings\username\local settings\application data' on a windows box.

cd ~
ls -la

hiddens look like this: drwxr-xr-x 3 zzhqc4 users 72 2006-05-19 09:25 .mozilla <-- note the . before the name that means hidden

Hope that helps...

My company (Webroot...makers of Spy Sweeper) still doesn't make an anti-spyware product for Mac's since there has really been no adware/spyware threats against them. Though in the last few weeks things have been starting. We don't pay much attention to Mac's here in the threat research department because of this, but I did hear something last week about a few Mac exploits going around. I'm sure you can find them if you search google for Mac adware.

The only Mac antispyware program that I know of is mentioned here http://macs.about.com/b/a/229091.htm. There might be one or two others, but this was what I found with a quick search.

Hope that sheds some light for you.
