So I have been having a bunch of ignition misfires/ no-fires and the problem comes and goes. It almost appears as if ambient heat helps it run. Did three runs today- first one was crap with old plugs, lots of stumbling. Second run was much stronger and only minor hesitation in 2.5-4k rpms. Third run was with new set of plugs (BPR7ES) and was identical to the second run. Resistance test for the coil and magnecor wires test perfect, and dead on. Haven't figured out where or how to test the transistor pack. Had the spark plug wells cleaned out- upon doing so found oil on the spark plug threads?!?

ANY suggestions would be helpful. ANYBODY experience tempormental ignition probs please post your experience and fixes here.

THANK YOU ALL

I'm not sure what you mean by "had the spark plug wells cleaned out", but oil on the spark plug threads could be from oil that dripped into the spark plug wells inadvertently at some point since the head was last installed on the block (i.e. not terribly uncommon). If you see oil on the electrode, that's a whole other (bigger) problem...

By spark plug wells, I mean the area surrounding the plug that leaves a good spot for water to drip in and settle. I didn't see any oil on the electrode, just threads. The head hasn't been off since the rebuild before my ownership, so it's been a while. Any info as far as having temperature determine the ignition performance?

You sure it's an ignition problem? I had a very similar situation I thought it was ignition related, but it was crusty injector connectors.
