My friend Dave with the blue EVO just took European delivery of a new 335i coupe. Humorous travel blog with lots of pics here:

Unfortunately this means he'll be selling the EVO soon. If anybody knows anybody looking for something like a 05 Blue SSL with low miles and unmolested, point them my way. Thanks...

That's a tight car. I went and looked at them a few weeks ago. The AWD version is coming out soon, so that will be interesting.

Did he get the new twin-turbo 3.0L in it?

Yeah, it's got the TT 3.0.
Just an update, a couple weeks ago he took it to Bandi and it ran 14.3 at just barely under 99mph. It ran a high 97 with me in it on the first pass, so I thought he'd hit 100mph by the end of the night with me out of the car, but it didn't seem to speed up much as the air cooled. The 14.3 is about exactly what I was expecting but I was pleasantly surprised by the mph. Basically the car is exactly the same performance from a roll as his stock EVO 8 was. It weighed a little over 3700 with him in it.

I read another article about the new 335i today and I really like the idea behind the car. It seems like there is a lot of performance still to be had even in fairly stock trim from that setup. I think I recall reading someone made an extra 40hp from just tuning alone. If it was an awd platform I think it would be my potential dream car.

He is going to love that car for a long time. After getting used to my 540 every car I ride in or drive feels like a total piece of crap now. The BMW is just so well engineered I can't imagine my daily driver being anything else anymore. The only complaint is the Getrag trans. The synchros in those have oil channels that are just too darn small and it feels like total crap. If my clutch ever goes bad, I will have to tear that trans down and modify those stupid Getrag blocker rings so they actually do something.

Regarding the potential, I *think* Shiv (I know, I know...but at least someone is working on it) has already put 400 to the wheels using a piggyback that doesn't require cutting any wires and exhaust. The tiny Mitsu turbos were done at that point.
As a bonus, they DO make it in AWD, too...Dave just didn't want to wait for that when he ordered. If I were to buy one, I'd probably go 4dr AWD with the automatic tranny and add nitrous :-).
Also, the smaller 135i is going to have the same motor. No AWD option AFAIK, but people are going to be having a LOT of fun with that car. I can't wait for someone to put two EVO turbos on one (hint hint, Jack :-)).
