What's needed to race? Who's competing?
http://www.bandimere.com/events/displayevent_detail.php?eventID=309

I would be estatic if I were to even qualify Saturday. That means I can race again Sunday, right? When are we meeting up? Quals on Sat. are beginning at 2pm, I think...

If my car isn't feeling good that day, I'll still be there ready to show a lil team spirit.
What class should a 11.xx-12.xx car compete in? I believe there's four that are heads up that we could fit into. Sport RWD, Street Stock, Modified, Hot Rod?
Also. From what I've been reading for NHRA rules. (I don't have a book) A modified DSMer would need the following. A Snell 95 or higher rated helmet. Flame jacket. Long pants. Scatter shield. Adaquate battery tie-down. seatbelts that are factory installed or non-expired race belts.
Did I miss anything?:o
All I can pray for is to not break anything. (..much) And to have fun running down the track and seeing ya others there spectating or driving.
... A new personal best may be asking to much. Clutch may be slipping and I don't have any money for slicks. :(

>>>Hmmm. I just might use my 8year old snows again. If they let me. ... They're bald, and I've used them before. lol.

You will want to qualify for SRWD or Quick 16.

Modified and prorwd are for the big guys, ie 9s and faster.

If you plan on running in any heads up class, then you will need a engine catch pan.
The catch pan needs to cover both the transmission and engine. It needs a minimum of a 1" lip and be folded back to contain any spills.

Qualifying for Heads up is on Saturday.

I plan on attempting to qualify for srwd and if that doesnt happen the quick 16. I dont know if a low 12 will be enough this year though.

I'll be there. I'm going to race my very own time in brackets.

For all you guys wanting to run Heads-up and worried about the catchpan.

Here was my solution:
Total cost ~$12 :D

Picked up a spillpan from Autozone $8, its 2'x3' which is almost perfect on a 1g.
I bent up the lips to they are 1.5" tall.
Cut the passenger side rear corner to clear the lower A arm.
Bolted it up with some custom brackets - $5

I need to do some finishing touches, like cut out a and box it in around the flex section in the downpipe, and fanangle the front bracket a bit, but this should pass tech from what I have seen on Honda-tech.

Yes it is required this year for Sportsman and Pro heads-up classes.

I'll get some pictures of the finished product tomorrow.

If you buy the pan and the flat stock bars and have everything ready to go, it only take an hour or two to make.

Nice work Seth. Forgot about that rule. I'll go out tonight and buy that stuff. Thanks for listing eveyrthing out with prices. If everything goes like its going so far this week I'll be racing in the Sport RWD (AWD) also.

Erik, you do need all the stuff you mention...but you also need a drive shaft loop (if 11.99 or faster) too.

Got my VP C114 on Saturday. Emptied the gas tank of the 91 and cleaned the tank out so its straight C114 and no mixed octane. Put in my interior in the car last night cutting my carpet and panels for the race seats and cage. I really liked the bare cage look, but this is pretty cool too to have all the other stuff back in. I hope I'm heavy enough. Before my cage I was 3090 with me, and the cage was about 65lbs worth of metal. I've added all my interior again, but I'm afraid I'll still be under the 3200lbs mark for 2 power adders (1 power adder is 3000lbs). Might just throw some plates in there and have Erron tach them down so I make it.

My block still needs assembled, but I'll be doing that tonight and tomorrow. I took Wed-Fri off to make sure I'm ready. Should be up and running Wed morning. I'll hit the dyno during the afternoon and maybe hit T&T that night.

Crap! Just got off the phone with Marco at Magnus Motorsports and my manifold still hasn't shipped. He's finishing it and sending it out tomorrow so I'll have it on Friday, but that kicks my schedule back quite a bit. Hope everything works out still with this or I'll be running a stock 1G manifold and throttle body this weekend. I guess I could still tap it for direct port but I'd rather leave it alone :D

Here is the completed pan, functional and it doesnt look horrible.
It stayed on at 117mph, so I'm sure it will be fine.

Quick Question: Do I need to go thru TECH again on Saturday if I have a permenant Registration? I mean if I dont have to then screw that drip pan, I'll run without it. :p

Yeah, because if you are racing heads-up it is not Bandimere that techs you. They are supposed to have NHRA Sportcompact techs for the headsup class.

supposidly.

Ya what Seth said...its not a Bandi tech, its a NHRA tech...

And he's pretty picky if its the same guy as its been the last 3 years. He DQ'd Kenny for not having his panels in where the supports for the roll bar was (rear speaker ones). Said we needed to cut around them to make them work, and that all panels must be in the car. So make sure you have your complete interior in except the back seat, carpet must be to at least the back of the front seats. Front seats must be identical and upholstered if aftermarket. All OEM gauges, wipers, everything must still be in working order. The car must be currently registered and have plates on it.

Make sure you triple read through the class rules on page 34 (11 of 31 in the pdf) to make sure you don't get kicked out of the class for something stupid that could have been taken care of easily.

What engine diaper are you using, Mark? I've only seen generic / domestic fitments. They sure aren't cheap!

I am using the one as shown here for a simple grand total of $13.56!

Oh, OK. Technically that's not an engine diaper, just a catch pan (as permitted by the rules). :)

Yeah, right. You'll sleep in, then show up at 10.:p lol

We're planning on leaving EARLY and would love for you to come with us. We know that events like these, you need to be there at 7 or earlier or you'll be waiting for 2 hours to get in. I'd bet we leave no later than 6:30.

I had to throw up the white flag today. After a complete head overhaul, clutch, flywheel and several misc. items and 4 days of missed work, Today I realized that I installed the throw-out bearing backwards!!!

I will be there on Sunday to watch my wife race her new Infinity G35.

Well, the car has certainly been better. :p
The new FPR was bouncing from 20-40psi at idle for unknown reasons, but boost FPR pressure seemed to be be good, so I ran it.:D

Race 1, Shawn and myself. Went something like this. Me on the right, Shawn on the left. Since the Street Mayhem event and all the traction issues, I lowered my launch rpm to 5k. So both of us at the line, vroom-vroom-vroom, green, _CLANK_!!!! (with just a window net, this was very loud)
Both of us, dead stopped 3 feet further forward than we just were.
(crowd in unison, "AHHHHH!!")
I look at Shawn, he looks at me, I figure he hasn't gone, was that him or me that just clanked? I turn the key, the car starts, and I go. Yeah, an 18 at 111mph, whoot! LOL:rolleyes:
Thank goodness all I did was stall.

The car was poppin and even what acts like fuel cut ensues. For the rest of the day, part throttle, full throttle, even just bliping the gas, the ignition went dead. Got in 3 runs, being eliminated at round 1. I couldn't get the car to build rpm at the line, by the time I did it was to late. A 12.8 at something..yuk.

Oh well, watched some good racing, got a killer tan, chilled out with my buddys, saw a bikini show, and even had a pina coloda snowy. All in another wonderful day of motorsports.

I never made it because problem after problem. My head needed new alignment pins for the cam caps. Not a Mitsu dealer in town could get them before Wed next week they told me Thur afternoon. Friday morning I call Christopher Dodge with the part number, and they ordered the pins and had them in my hands Sat 9AM. Got those on, cams on, timing belt on, tranny on, dropped the engine in (thanks for the hand Shawn and Erron), started doing everything else and let Shawn and Erron go back to their own cars again.

Me, Shawn and Erron 10AM Saturday morning:
http://static.flickr.com/75/165736694_f2dfdf9f3b.jpg (http://static.flickr.com/75/165736694_f2dfdf9f3b.jpg)

I was not far off from making it when I noticed my show stopper. I got the wrong year of Accufab throttle body (got '96-'02 needed '85-'93) so my flanges didn't meet up. Almost decided to stick the stock intake on and try to make it a go, but I had already modified my UIP by cutting off the 1G TB flange and after Kenny welded it back on and we started cleaning it out with a bit and I got to thinking that I was pushing the issue and I threw in the towel then.

As she sits now:

Probably better that way after watching all my good friends break yesterday too.

Shawn completely siezed his tranny
Erron has fuel pressure issuse related to throttle
Kenny had AEM EMS error codes thrown the night before
Mark with the throwout bearing issue not making it

I should have been so lucky not to race. The bad vibe was out there. Thank god I dodged it. At least Erik W. made an appearance...

I didnt run so good.

I dont know if I forgot how to launch or if the clutch just wont hold on the launch. My 60' sucked. 2.0, 1.9, 2.0, 2.0

My race tune was not right and the car ran slower initially then my pump gas tune. I got that sorted out Sunday morning and went 12.8 @ 115.6 loosing to a local RX-7. Apparently a .697 reaction time isnt good? Lol, damn pro tree.
