I've done a boost leak test twice now. I can't find any leaks. My car is now running a cel pretty much all the time, it also has a really weird loss of power sometimes(ignition problems?). Here is the list of parts replaced or removed.....so far
isc and tps sensors
ignition coil
power transistor
throttle body seals(rebuilt by hal),both gaskets
intake manifold gasket
non cruise control cable installed
intercooler outlet elbow gasket
egr valve block off plate
i've also removed the entire emissions system
someone help please!
i'm guessing the fiav is shot?

My money's on FIAV. That's what mine was. Went through just about all of the same stuff, put on a blockoff plate and it went away. $10 on ebay, shipped.
This is the one I used:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MITSUBISHI-DSM-FIAV-BYPASS-PLATE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42604QQihZ018QQit emZ280148473933QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
It blocks off the FIAV but retains the ISC.
Just take Bert's advice and use an impact wrench to get the screws out of the TB. As far as I can tell, they're made of silly putty and strip if you look at them wrong.

I second fiav. Just get the ebay $10 one. Good luck on getting the screws out. If you can cut a slit in them with a cutoff wheel and use a big flat head screw driver it makes it pretty easy too.

Like Mike said that I said. :) This and a vice are all you need to get the screws off.

I've got one if you wanted to bring your throttle body over and I can get the screws off easily for you.

i appreciate that but i think when hal rebuilt it he put new screws in as well. I want that impact driver though, that looks like it would come in handy.

Without even reading through this (sorry getting up at 6am tomorrow) the original DSM site's archives (www.dsm.org I think) has a really detailed Idle surge FAQ and diagnosis.

Have you pulled the CEL? I haven't had a problem with the FIAV before and could be wrong, but I can't think of a directly related CEL code?
I've had good luck using a T-handle screwdriver (basically a switchable screwdriver with an extra connection midway on the side of the handle) and a correctly sized Phillips bit. I picked it up for a couple of bucks at the Sears checkout on a shopping trip, and it's worked perfectly for applying pressure while removing stubborn screws like the throttle body screws. I've done way too many TB rebuilds. :p

really no cel from a fiav? What about the car running really rough until it gets warmed up? It stumbles and idle surges really bad for about the first 15 min or so. Then once the car is warmed up the car idle surges but runs fine(besides the idle problem).

I didn't get a CEL from my FIAV. Just a high idle. The only way to know is to pull it, though.

well burt checked the cel and it was the ign coil. I just replaced both the coil and power transister though.

just put a fiav bypass plate on, still have an idle surge(although it is less now). It is still running a cel as well as running like crap until it gets warmed up.

Maybe a dumb question but have you screwed the BISS all the way in yet? I also had to rtv over the screw because even with a new o-ring in it it still leaked there (corrosion most likely).

Have you pulled the CEL again?
A properly running car shouldn't need the BISS screwed all the way in. I also don't believe in FIAV bypass plates either, though.

Well i've checked the biss and screwed it all the way but to no avail. The seal was replaced when the t/b was rebuilt

Either you checked the ISC wrong and it has some junk coils or you still have leaks in or after the throttle body... that's pretty much the only stuff that can give you high idle surge.

ok i believe i may have finally traced my idle surge and hesitation, bogging issue. I opened up my ecu to see if it's a eprom(which it isn't) and found the 5-6 little black squares that are lined up in a row well one has burned up. These aren't the capacitors correct? Wish I could snag a pic but my camera is busted!

Those are the driver chips that control various solenoids. Two of those chips also control the 4 coils of the ISC.
The two isc drivers are IC105 and IC107. Give me a shout, I can fix this for you.
