View Full Version : Finally logged the car

Got the Multiplex interface yesterday in the mail so I thought I'd try to log the 95 GSX.

My Palm M130 isn't going to work since I don't have a serial interface on it so I was forced to use my laptop. I'll have to order the serial interface from pocketlogger.com before I can log with the Palm.

Also tried PCMSCAN. It would connect but wouldn't show anything. Not sure why it wouldn't work not to mention the free download doesn't let you do much such as read codes and other important tasks.

Installed the Tunerstein on the laptop and it took awhile before I was able to get the program to work. It finally came to life and I was able to log. Tunerstein is a little flakey and not the most user friendly program but it provided me with a basic log of what was going on plus it shows the last DTC even though my check engine light never came on.

The code is a faulty knock sensor which explains why my car was running so ****ty at the top. When I floor it, it would put the timing to 0-10 degrees. This is normal function of the ECM when the knock sensor isn't working.

I also found my TPS only goes to 91% when I go WOT. If I press really hard, it might go to 94% so I'll need to work on that too.

I'm actually relieved I found out why my car is running like crap. Hopefully the knock sensor and fixing the TPS % will do the trick.

I'd still like to mess with some of the free OBD2 software tools out there. The Elmsoft All-in-1 interface seams to be more supported than the Multiplex. I'll post back to this if I find anything else that works.

One thing to keep in mind is the cost on the cables.

T16-003 Multiplex Interface- $86 shipped
Null Modem Cable- $15
Serial adapter for Palm M130- $20

Thats money that could of been used towards DSMlink!

Do you have a drivers side floor mat? That would be the easy fix if that's getting in the way. :)

I checked the mat first and it was out so I assume the throttle cable needs adjusted.

most likely the TPS needs adjusted.

What does the TPS register when it's closed at idle?

If you need a 2g knock sensor, I have a new, unused one sitting in my toolbox.

Don't know what they go for new anymore...

Thanks, I'll look into that.

I think 2%. PM me how much you want for the knock sensor. I already ordered one through Autozone but I guess might be able to get my money back.

Set the TPS until it reads close to 10% at idle. That should gain you your 100% at WOT and get the TPS to read correctly.

Consider the PM already sent :)

I thought 2gs read from 0 to 100% on a logger and only 1gs went from 10% to 100%?

Yeah, mine shows 0% at idle and 97% at WOT through dsmlink???

I'll have to look it up. Will it hurt to have it 10% at idle? Wouldn't the throttle blade still only be 90% at WOT?

Replaced the knock sensor last night. What a B1TCH! After attempting to get it off with visegrips, and a larger crescent wrench, the wire finally broke off so luckily I had a large SAE socket that fit the metric sensor. Had to go underneath the car just to turn the ratchet. Finally came out and the new one I just installed hand tight but put a drop of locktite on the treads so it won't loosen. Car runs MUCH better on top now.

If I remember correctly, the tps needs to be showing 0% at idle or the ecu will not put the car into idle mode(probably not correct wording, but it happened to me like a year ago:) ). You can check it with a scantool to make sure it goes into full idle.

It's very possible. I forgot a 2g doesn't use an idle switch.

I was thinking about a 1g setup.

Listen to them. not me. :)
