I am officially ready to retire my 1989 Mazda B2200 pickup. It smokes when cold, burns oil, leaks oil, overheats when driven for extended periods on the highway, and has a cracked windshield and a broken speedo cable. Obviously it's not worth much. :p However, it's never let me down in the 7 years I've owned it, and it's been my daily driver for the last ~7 months.
I have a small amount of money invested in parts for the truck, so I figured I'd throw this out there and see if anyone wants it as a utility truck to have around.
For one, I installed a Weber 38 Outlaw 2bbl carb to replace the worn-out stock carb (rebuilt once, ran well for a few years, then crapped out again). The carb alone was ~$450, and it made the single biggest difference in the drivability of the truck. It's no racecar, but it starts up without a problem and has good low-end torque. Gas mileage was in the 24-25mpg range last time I checked, and the synchronous throttle plates give it great throttle response.
Since the Weber carb doesn't have provisions for emissions equipment, it's all been removed with the exception of the EGR tubes that come up from the stock exhaust headers. I purchased a set of Pacesetter tubular headers (~$140) to eliminate the EGR tubes, but never got around to installing them. I still have all of the stock emissions parts (and carb, for that matter) if desired.
The stock speedo has been replaced with an OEM speedo/tach cluster (which subsequently resulted in the demise of the stock speedo cable that had been making whirring noises for years).
It's overdue for a timing belt, and I have a brand new timing belt and water pump sitting in the garage. I also have an OEM service manual ($85).
A number of items are new within the last year or so (dist. cap, rotor, radiator hoses) and several of the items were replaced during my ownership of the vehicle (fuel pump, clutch). I also have studded snows for the rear (studs just about gone, but 90% tread on the tires), sand bags, etc. Truck has a bedliner.
I also have some other misc. items (Hella fogs, CD head unit / 4x80 amp / MTX speaker boxes) that I'll throw in cheap if you want them.
Asking price for the truck and listed items is $450, and you can drive the truck away (current Basic Area emissions as of the end of last year, believe it or not!). I think I can get this much selling all of the items of value separately, so you get the truck for free.
Oh, it's red, by the way.
Any takers? :D
