Ok, so I was being stupid today, I was practicing launching and smoked my clutch bad... I can smell it when I do anything above 3k. So I was wondering what clutch should I get, I've been looking at the RRE no-name, ACT 2100/2600/2900 and was wondering what would be best performance/DD.

*liiks like DSM link is going to be put on hold for a minute*

Have you checked the clutch adjustment?

Yea, got my clutch adjusted about a week ago, that's why I was practicing launching, getting used to the new adjustment.

I'm guessing you're running some type of organic clutch.

Usually, after putting some effort into breaking your car, the clutch can do one of two things:

1) Get Slippery
2) Start to break apart

I'm guessing you're not slipping. If you are slipping, it's worth taking VERY easy on the car for a few hundred miles, and see if you get lucky.

Otherwise, I'd say go for Southbend...I'm learning to love them.

Ok, I'll take it easy on the clutch and see if it helps. I think if anything it would be slipping. When I was taking off after I smoked it, I got up to 4k and it slipped to 5 and back and forth for a second then it grabbed. But after 2 passes last night it felt like it was alright, but not the best.

Once the stock one starts to slip it's on it's way out in a hurry.. You should have known better trying to do repeated launches on a stock clutch.

Yea, I feel like a deedeedee right now :D

But I wasn't to worried because that's what I was waiting for to get a better clutch & Flywheel.

ACT 2600.... the stocker will die quickly once you start smoking it... ahh, the good ol' days, I remember shifting to second and having the stocker just spin like the clutch was still in...

Actually I've had both the Centerforce and ACT 2600 and, despite the bad press Centerforce gets for repeated launches, it worked just fine. But the ACT 2600 is proven for drag racing and it's very drivable on the streets.

Best 60' time on the stocker and T25 was 1.89.. best 60' on Centerforce and E3 16g was 1.81... best 60' time on the ACT 2600 and E3 16g so far is 1.77... go with the ACT 2600...

Sounds good to me... Keep an eye out for me on craigs list with my couch & comps, etc lol

I really need to get my 60ft down, I average about 2.0 :(

What about the ACT 2900??? Has anyone had luck with that or is too much for the street?

I think most people stay away from them for fear of crank walk. If a 2600 wouldn't hold the power, I'd upgrade to a twin disc.

What are you launching at? Stock I used the factory "stutterbox" (rev limiter, 7500rpm) and just dumped it. That works great as long as you are not half in and half out of the groove, if you're halfway in and halfway out say goodbye to your center diff.

With the E3 16g I have it set to 5250rpm I think and I slip the clutch out... Conditions at Bandi can either be very sticky or very slick, very slick I drop the tires to 25psi and line up in the groove, very sticky the tires are around 32psi and I try to slip the clutch even more out of the groove.

What about the ACT 2900??? Has anyone had luck with that or is too much for the street?

Never tried the 2900... the 2600 has been more than enough for me on the street and on the track... I'm not exactly turning super fast times though at 13.1...

What about the 2100 or would it just be better to get the 2600 of the bat for the extra couple 20's?

I'd spend the extra for the 2600....

I'd spend the extra for the 2600....

No question, the 2100 is good for mild fwd builds only, any abuse at all and it's wholely inadequate. I have a 2600 and I still think I need more clutch. Don't get me wrong, it's still solid on a launch after 15k miles on it but it's starting to slip from a roll in the upper gears.

To be more specific...I'd consider the Southbend OFE or FE disk- you'd have to ask them about clamp load but I remember the OFE HD plate (lower clamp force than SS) should reliably hold around 320 hp...and it really does feel like stock with a very nice feel.

I'm guessing here...thinking the OFE SS is similar to the 2600 in what it can hold, and the FE SS will probably outperform it. I've heard of people running 5-600hp with the ACT 2600 pp and the FE disk.

My Vote is for the ACT 2600 and street disk setup. I tried the CFDF-HD, and was less than impressed. After that, I put the ACT2600 in and love it!

I think the 2600 is the one for you. ACT is proven. 2100 is too limiting, 2900 is a little overboard and the stress on the main bearings.
