I bought this car last December with the idea of droping a 4G64t in it and have Corvette beating performance for under $10,000. That's still the plan, but I'm hitting road blocks. I bought the car with not title. Although it's not that hard to get a title, I'm having trouble getting things done. I just need to get it inspected (it's not a driver) and get a sury bond or something.
The next road block is power. I can easily make 400-500hp (which I plan to). But how can I put it down? I see most owners only have maybe a 215 width tire. I was hoping for 225 or larger. Can I actually use some of that power with a small width tire?
I know of alot of issues with mating my 4G64 block to the Toyota R154 transmission I have, I just need to get to it. Another issue is getting the engine in there. The front crossmember is made for rear sump engines, which the Mitsu unit is not. I know how to fix that, I just need to do it. My car is also an automatic unit and I need to figure out if I can swap in some pedals from another car. I can't find a 510 anywhere, but will the pedals from a Z car work? Alot of the 240Z stuff is interchangable with the 510, but I have no clear answers.
My current problem is a fuel cell. Obviously the unit in the 510 is made for carburation, not fuel injection. I can make a surge tank, but then I need 2 fule pumps. All of that equals a couple hundred $$ that I don't want to spend. I was wondering if anyone had demensions for a fuel cell to fit. Will the 1G FWD unit work. I need something about 13" or shorter, and no more than 31.5" wide. Depth isn't a big concern, but the smaller the better. I was wanting to use something like this cause the Walboro 255 is cheap and I wouldn't have to make anything special to get it to work.
There's a lot of Aussie companies that sell upgraded brakes and suspension pieces for the 510. Does anyone know of any decent US companies? My palns are below. If anyone has suggestions or input, feel free to chime in. Also, once I start making progress, I might have a work day and invite some of you to come check it out and help.

1972 Datsun 510 4dr
4G64/ 1G head (Wiesco pistons/Scat rods)
Toyota R154 from a 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo
16x8 Wheels (hopefully) I think the TSW Kyalami wheels would be sweet
60-1 turbo (other suggestions?)
R200 LSD and CV axles
Probably coil-over suspension (eventually at least)
Upgraded front discs and rear disc conversion
Bluebird tail lights BMW headlights and side mirrors
Small roll cage (4/6 point)
Other small typical upgrades
I figure I can get 400-500whp reliably. 2500lbs or less curb weight. Low 12sec quarter mile. 110ft 60-0 braking. 1.00g skidpad. :D
