My ABS light has been on for a couple of months now and it is starting to irritate me!!! I tried pulling fuses, unplugging the controll unit, battery, etc... Nothing works! So I have to assume that there is something wrong with it somewhere. Any ideas where to check? Anyone proficient in this area that could meet up with me to check out the symptoms? I have to do an emissions test Saturday and need it fixed by then. I live in Highlands Ranch so anyone near here that can help would be highly praised!!

They can't fail you for that light.

Is it on all the time?

If so - visit Mile High Mitsu to pull the code. $45.

They said they wouldn't test the car if that light is on because it constitutes an "unsafe condition, insufficient braking capability". So, can I just try and remove the bulb?
Is there any way to pull the code without paying $45? Money is pretty tight at the moment...

Not to start a flame war, but with your mods you can't afford to have the code pulled?

Disconnect the battery and hope it passes before it comes on again (which could be immediately depending on the problem).

I really don't think it has anything to do with my mods. I actually lost my job last month and have just started a new one this week so I am a bit low on funds. But again, that's beside the point.. I tried pulling the battery but the light comes on as soon as I turn the key. I'm guessing it's something more than a relay. I'm going to check the sensors in the wheels tomorrow, maybe I'll get lucky...

Yes if unplugging the battery doesn't work. You can also try unplugging the ECU (located under the glovebox on the back floorboard) or where the ABS motor is also (location depends on model, but my '97 has it in the driver front fender under the PS stuff).

I did try unplugging all of those components, no luck. I'm thinking maybe a wheel sensor is bad?? I'll have to get under the car tonight and make sure they are all intact.

Leave them unplugged. Leave the ABS ECU or the ABS motor or anything that makes the light go away for what you need. It won't hurt it. You just won't have ABS. If you don't want to do that just pull the screws for the tach and speedo stuff and grab the light bulb out. Shouldn't take longer than 5 minutes to do that.

This was a uncalled for. I apologize to Allen for making the comment. Life is full of changes and dealing with some of them can be difficult.

Autozone or checker will read a code free. At least for ODB2 cars...

That is for OBDII readings. The ABS light is different.

it might just be that your low on brake fluid...i know in my friends srt4 his abs light came on when he was low on brake fluid. Might as well check it.

Usually it is the Brake light and not the ABS light that should come on when your low on fluid.

First of all Chris and Mr. AWD, it's YOU'RE, not YOUR. Go back to fifth grade. :)

Secondly Wazz, just drive onto some gravel and stomp the brakes to see if the ABS is working. I would say that an emissions shop has no right to tell you that light needs to be off, because not having ABS has zero effect on emissions, but then again, I don't have any experience with the IM240 test I assume you have to have.

Once you see if they're working, just pull that stupid bulb and save yourself some cash. Unless the techs engage the ABS while on the rollers, which they shouldn't, you're not unsafe to drive at all. You can figure out the ABS problem later.

How did your wheel speed sensors test? They are the problem most the time.
Its unfortunate that the inexpesive obd testers don't give abs access. The good news is that there really are that many imputs to the abs module. Try testing a few of them to see if they doing what there should to be. The best idea is to just disconnect/ and or remove and by pass it. It a waste of space and uneeded extra weight if you ask me.

Only a MUTT II or a DRB II diagnostic computer can reset your SRS light (at least on 3S's), which you'll only find at a dealer. Ed Carroll Mitsu up in Fort Collins will do it for $55.00 and I think Mile High Mitsu will do it for $45.00. Takes all of 5 mins.
