I visited 3R today for some oil. (Kudo's to them - a mix up and he was saving a couple qts of tranny fluid for me). Anyway:

So this place actually exists?!

Drool...I'm far too poor for this racing hobby. :p

Looks great, but whoopty doo, it's a yuppie club limited to 400. Unless you're rolling in $, I doubt you'll even be able to use it.

Are they even going to make it open to the public, or only members of the "club?"

I just sent them an email asking for the scoop on all of it. That is soooo awesome.

That makes me all giddy inside!

Until they tell you you can't join unless you pay $75,000/yr. and own at least 3 Ferraris.

I'll rescind all my criticism if they plan to make it publically accessible for a reasonable cost.

This could be true. At some point though it'll be, "I know a guy, that knows a guy that can get us on".

The same way I play Hiwan Country Club's golf course in Evergreen.:D

I'm pretty sure I know the guy who's doing it...there are multiple
groups pursuing this kind of thing, but I'm pretty sure this is
Klause's. He and some friends are going out to the site tomorrow
afternoon in a 4wd to go around the "track" following the GPS
coordinates.

He's got the money...and he's a smart guy and a good guy. I
don't really know what the odds of it actually happening are,
though.

He's got a cool supercharged Z8 that he blew up and is doing
something else with now. He's a big RX7 freak and the only
reason I've met him is through his RX7 friends.

The current concept is strongly built around making a playpen
for rich people. Rich people only have so much time to spend
at the track, though, so I'm thinking surely they'll have
public events sometimes.

Just got confirmation that this *is* the website of the guy
I was talking about, but I misspelled his name, it's
Clause Wagner.

Hopefully copyright doesn't impede the progress.

There is a cool 5th gear segment on the ascari resort, the link on
speedtv's page doesn't work but it's probably floating around the net
somewhere.

It would be cool to have something like this nearby, so long as it was almost reasonable. VIR has a "country club" type membership, and the pricing isn't outrageous. Although the VIR club affords you 1-2 track days a month where this one claims to get you unlimited track use, 6 days a week.

It's been a day and no response yet on yearly membership...

I'm afraid to even ask.

I assume they'd open it up for SCCA events, right? With no other venue within reason...

This isn't set in stone, just a ballpark as *information only*. $25k one time fee, and $300 a month thereafter. Sounds like it's mostly for the members, but not entirely sure as of yet.

He also mentions that daily rental for one of the tracks will be available. Paul, don't sell that suspension just yet!
Scheduled for spring 2008, but possibly sooner.

I wonder if we could convince them that we are one guy with 50 cars, (Erron's, Paul's, Justin's, etc...) $500 down and $6 a month :)

Yea, we're that Dietrich guy that wrecked the Enzo!

I'm hoping to see about a club membership.

From what I heard it will be available for club use.

I'll probably need a rocking chair by 2008.

Probably only because I heard Aaron's getting another DSM (hasn't there been a law passed against this yet?). I see him at poker every other Friday.

He is looking. Not sure he has the means yet to buy.

So is he a good poker player?

Well, the two times I've played with him, he's been first out and 3rd out of at least 40. I can't knock him though, my performances lately haven't been much better.

Am I missing something? This is awesome, however, it's in Spain. Ya gunna fly yer car there?
What would be interesting is to mimic this track for our local (former) 2nd creek guys to recreate here!

Am I missing something?

Yes. The link you are looking at is for the ascari track in Spain. The original link is for a proposed local track. The link to the track in Spain was provided because it is an identical concept and web site (less the photoshopping of the pictures to remove the ascari name).

But it'll have a five point harness and a fire system! :D

That would be one fast rocking chair.

For me to be serious again I would need a dedicated car.

Probably going to sell the car next spring. Time to plan for retirement.

Plays poker like he drives. :)
