Has anyone ever made their own brake lines? Was wondering how difficult it may or may not be? From what I read it does not seem too difficult just need to make sure you make a good double flare end on the line itself. Next question does anyone have the tool to do this? and how much does it cost? Would it be better to try to borrow one or buy one?

Long story short is the colt I just purchased came from VT and I am replacing the whole rear suspension and I am having no luck trying to remove the brake lines to trailing from where it comes from the hard line.

I've done it before about 15-20 years ago when I worked in a shop. I don't remember all the details that well, but it wasn't that hard. You need the tubing bender and the tool to make the flair end. It seems like you have to be careful when bending the tubing, ie don't get too aggressive, but other than that, I can't remember any pitfalls. I'm planning on doing something like this in the not too distant future (shaping a brake line) but it won't be for brakes.

Have you checked to see if Checker or Autozone rents the flare tool?

The also sell brake lines in certain lengths that you can bend yourself. The ends and flares are already done. You would need a bender of coarse.

I have the tools to do this, its not particularly hard to do and only takes a few moments to figure out.

It's pretty simple. The double flare tool I got from autozone was garbage and would not bubble the line correctly so I ended up single flaring them. It's not recommended because they can crack easily but I had no problem just cutting off the ends that cracked and redoing them, they have held for several years. One thing I might recommend if you are redoing like ALL your brake lines is adding an adjustable proportioning valve, it makes a big difference in how your car stops.

I'd rather make my own using -3an SS lines and fittings. ;)
