About a week ago while driving around i noticed that my RPMs would spike during moderate acceleration which lead to the smell. Im almost 100% positive its the clutch slipping (what else would produce that smell). the spike would happen at around 0 boost and appeared to get worse upon more acceleration. Otherwise if i take it super slow (no boost) and keep my shifts low it would operate fine. When i bought the car a year ago the previous owners claimed the clutch was new but couldnt tell me what clutch set up it was so im positive its a cheap clutch that was probably installed wrong.

Ive been looking around for new clutch kits. ACT seems to be the best bang for the buck. ive been doing some research and i cant decide on the ACT 2100 or the ACT 2600. Does anybody have any thoughts on a route i should take?

Make sure that your clutch pedal isn't misadjusted to where it preloads the clutch.

If it is preloading the clutch, it'll give the feeling of a worn, slipping clutch wherea it's slipping because the hydraulics are keeping it slightly disengaged.

If there is free play at the top of the clutch pedal travel, then it is very possible that it is a slipping clutch. As far as replacement clutches, the only brand I still trust is ACT. I've seen every type and brand fail, but the ACT's tend to last longer before they do.

If you do go ACT, the 2600 will take quite a bit of power but I think for your current level a 2100 will do just fine. The 2600 has a pretty heavy pedal feel and will put more pressure on your thrust bearing. The 2100 has a nice light pedal feel and should have more than enough grab for your current power levels. Combine that with the "street disk" and you'll have a nice clutch setup.

Would it be worth it to just cough up the extra cash for the 2600. Ive been browsing online and pretty much everywhere i look the 2100 is right around 3 to 350$ and the 2600 is right around 400$. Does this seem about right or am i looking in the wrong places.

Thats about right. In the end it's really up to you. The biggest difference you will notice is in the pedal pressure. The 2600 will take some getting used to where as the 2100 is much closer to stock. IMHO I would get the clutch that best suits your needs one year from now. If you plan on upping the power and will need more holding power in the near future, gt the 2600. If you are not planning on modifying your car for say another 60-100HP stick to the 2100.

As far as I can tell it's almost always a better idea to go for the 2600. You might not think you need it, but the first time you abuse the 2100 just a little too much you will wish you had the extra clamping force to keep it holding solid.
