I know its not a wide band, but is the autometer a/f gauge worth buying to sort of help me with tunning? I finally got my car back up and now time to finsh tunning it now.

Waste of money for the most part.

I got mine with the car and the only thing it really does is tell me when I have an exhaust leak, blow a coupler off, have my idle switch stop working right, or give me a general sense of if I am way off on the tune for some other reason. It's not a tuning tool but can be a quick diagnostic tool. I probably wouldn't buy another one but it still has its uses if you know what to look for.

I always said they were completely worthless...then I did find one small reason to have one.

Normally I ran just above stoich on the gauge (no idea if I was actually stoich, but that's what it showed).

Then one day I started reading way down low in the red (very lean).

It turned out the t-fitting where the boost gauge was tapped into the FPR vac was cracked and I wasn't rasing fuel pressure with boost.

If you think of it as a relative gauge it will show you when something is horribly wrong, but as for tuning and catching small changes it's really not worth anything.

If you look hard enough, you could probably find a used WB for close to the same price as a new narrow band gauge. That would be a better investment. You could also always borrow someone's WB just for tuning.

at that point you really should be tuning off your o2 sensor and egt gauge.

What do you mean tuning off your O2 and EGT gauge? O2 for A/F and EGT for knock? Can you describe more? Is this enough to tune a SAFC?
