So I snapped a belt this morning, I replaced it but I figured out that the alternator has seized. Is there anything I can do or do I just need to get another one.

Also I've heard people replacing their alternators with Saturn alternators, any advantage to this or is it just that much more of a pain?

There's a good write up on dsmtuners about this. search 'saturn alternator swap'
It's supposed to be more reliable, but I can't speak from experience.

Its a ton more reliable from a voltage standpoint. Cant comment on durability, have no idea good or bad.

That's where I heard about it, didn't know if anyone out here has done it or not. Plus I kind of like pulling up to a stoplight and having everything go dim (oh wait)

The saturn swap is for people who either want to up there voltage (because they got a bling bling stereo system that needs power), or are having problems maintaining voltage when going WOT because of the draw of the fuel pump which most typical DSMers aren't experiencing unless your pushing your fuel system.

IMO, it would be better if you were to just stick with the OEM style for selling reasons and because it isn't just a drop in mod. You need to shave the saturn alt. on one side and then hack the alt wires for the new clip. 95% of the people out there don't need the saturn alt.\

I haven't done the swap in the '97 yet so I don't have experience yet, but I have too because of the fuel pumps I'm going to be pushing. The '95 will keep the OEM style.

I've got it in my car. I went with a 200 amp alternator. It'll hold up pretty well under serious demand. I'm praying I never actually tax the thing, but better safe than sorry.

I've done the saturn swap with relocation to the rear of the engine. i personaly like it, it frees up voltage and with the relocation it gives more room up front. and on the reliabiltiy issue, my family has owned saturn's ranging from my 94 to my moms 07 and my brother has a 01, and we have NEVER replaced the alternator. mine has 185k and my brothers has about 150k on the factory alt, so i think they are reliable

I like using the 97' Galant alternator, its 90AMPS, and a 4 pin plug so its "PLUG & PLAY" His&HERTurbo" AKA Joe, hooked me up.

We could go cruise the junkyards or better yet call around & see if any of them have any Galants.

I'm hoping mine works for awhile, this will be my 3rd alternator now.

If it doesn't I will either destroy the car in a fit of rage or re-wire in a Saturn 200amp.

I went to U Pull & Pay AKA A1 & they have two Galants there with 90amp 4 pin connectors.

One looks like its in really good condition, but your never sure until you go get it load tested at a local auto parts store.

I went to Advance & tested the one I bought off of a friend & it turned out to be fine.

Hit me up if you need one.
