Can you use a 1G Eprom in a 2G?-sorry if this is a dumb question.
I've heard the 1G Eproms hold the data you change, while the 2G's lose it when you shut the car off?
Is this complete B.S. or what?
Also I am trying to find a 95' socketed EPROM in good condition
and a DSMLink (preferably with the original owner's online log on data) if that matters? For tech support.
Any info would be appreciated.
I am trying to get rid of the inverted CAS signal on this 6 bolt swap for good and eventually learn a lil' about tuning.
Thanks

From what I know a 1g ecu cannot go into a 2g. Also dsmlink on 1g's have a memory feature where you can take the ecu out and store it for 3 years and put it back in with the same settings. On 2g's no, once the battery is removed or the ecu is unplugged you lose all of your settings.

It's possible, and someone did it before the 2g DSMLink came out...but it's more than just getting the wiring right, and that alone is a nightmare.

Pretty sure Hal has done it.

It was the other way around, but still the same idea. 2g DSMLink came first and several 1g guys rewired into a 2g ECU to get DSMLink. It was a major PITA, though.

alright, good to know
I don't want to deal with a bunch of wiring issues.
I'm going to try complete this mission:
-track down a 95' Eprom ( I am headed up to Denver now, going to see a guy who has an EPROM) just gotta open it up make sure nothing is damaged b4 I buy it.
-send it off to be socketed by dsmlink.com
(unless anyone knows someone who actually knows what they are doing when it comes to this)
-Buy a DSMLink from someone & make sure its not a counterfeit, or missing anything & they transfer it over to me by notifying DSMLINK.Com so I can use the forums.
-then put it into my car
-get the serial port adapter or Db8 or whatever cable, they have one that goes to a regular USB right?
-Try to get some friends to help me tune it correctly for my setup.
Anyone have any other advice?
I am looking at buying it new now, not sure if I want to go the "unsure" 2nd hand way...seems like too many probs. in the long run.
I know other people go with Keydiver, but its limited & I don't want to have to send it back to get it reprogrammed when I change something like injectors.
Whats some thoughts on Keydiver?
Thanks

Keydiver is very good. If you want the ability to change your tune, and don't either know someone who can burn you regular changes on EPROMS or want to learn to do it yourself, DSMLink is the only game in town short of a full standalone.

DSMLink might be the most used and probably the best option, but there are others. I think there's one by Moates called the Ostrich. There is always MegaSquirt. Or you can go stand alone with AEM, Autronic, Fuel Injection Pro?, TEC2, etc. I know there is more than just the DSMLink option. It might be the best and one of the cheaper option, but it's not the only show in town.

Ya, I've been looking into a lot of the other ones. The problem is they aren't as well known, therefore the support for them is harder to find.
I really liked the AEM, but a lil' pricey. I'm a broke college student right now so I went with the tried & proven method AKA DSM link.
I was also entertaining thoughts about using "Keydiver," but it looked like too much work if you ever wanted to change anything. Plus the guy who invented Keydiver said "If your the kind of person who really wants to squeeze every last HP out of your car, then get the DSMLink."
So I got an EPROM, sent it off today to get socketed, also ordered DSMLINK.
Can't wait to get rid of my CAM signal problem, needs to be inverted since I'm running a 6 bolt.
Today I redid the seals on my TB & its not leaking anymore and replaced the PCV valve. So no more boost leaks. Its coming a long nicely, hoping to have some real fun next time I get paid & get some bigger injectors, turbo, etc.
Thanks

Where should I go to get a DB9 Serial to USB adapter cable?
I don't have a very old laptop with a serial port & need to find an adapter.

Most computer stores (Best Buy ,Radio Shack) have them in stock, get the shortest one in length possible.

I called Best Buy yesterday, they don't carry them supposably. I'll try around a few more places.

I suggest looking for a Keyspan USB-serial adapter. It seems to be the most compatible one out there, and personally I've had good luck with mine.

Hey is there anyone here in Colorado Springs, who would like to bestow upon me some of their DSMLINK knowledge?
I am reading up on it in the DSMwiki & all, but I'm just more of a hands on learner.
Just came in today along with my EPROM so trying to get it all setup to invert CAM signal, and run a hacked MAF.
I'm NorthEast PM me or hit me up on here.
Thanks
