Who's going? Which day? I was planning on Sunday, along with a few others, but thanks to this info

Its looking like Sunday at PMI will be big money racers, and they wont let many street cars run. It'll have to be saturday if anyone is going to PMI.

it may be Saturday instead. Last time I was there, I was the only DSM, so I spent a lot of time talking to myself lol. I'd like to see at least a few of us down there at the same time :)

I read on the PMI message boards that the organizers are trying to make the big money drags a huge event, but I'm not familiar enough with it to know if they'll pull it off or not and clog the track up all day.

I'm thinking Sunday but I'm not 100% yet.

Good to see all of you out there. Even though there was a lot of standing around waiting for those damn junior drags. MAAAAN those suck!! Some good runs! Congrats on your time Matt C! My friend Jeff was out there in his SC300 and got a 9.3x in that thing. It was pretty sick.

Matt, congrats on your time! It was great to see you hit your goal and beat it just a little. Kevin was able to drive my car down the track for me (nerve damage making it hard to spank that clutch just right) and he managed to nail an 11.5@124 with it. I dunno how fast other AWD spyders here in Colorado are, but I think its the fastest.

I also did some tinkering with it on the way home, and I'll be doing some more testing (maybe a little dyno here and there) and if I'm right, I'm confident this has alot more power in it. :)

I think it does too. My brother knows it should have hit a low 11 and one pass he had a 127MPH trap so we know it can do it. If he became superman maybe a high 10, but that may have been a dream. For how terribly heavy that car is, it moved really good! It stayed together well with no issues and seemed to have more in it. You need to see if you can get my brother to go to the 'last hurrah' drags and try again. Being sick with a cold and not having any seat time in the car didn't help today I'm sure...

I'll be doing a few little things this week - if we go again next week it'll definitely be faster. I guarantee it. :)

I got footage on my camera that was mounted in Matts car of your car doing the 11.5 pass. I'll get it edited and pop it up in a little bit :)

Have you weighed your car yet Xakep? I weighed my awd spyder and it was surprisingly lighter than my friends gsx.

Its prolly pretty darn heavy. Its got a full interior, AC, Power Steering and a bunch of electronics.

Thanks Matt for coming out with us, I had a good time. Thanks to Quinn too for letting me beat up on his car for a day. I just need a little more seat time, 3 runs wasn't enough haha.

You guys should post up when you go up next. I would love to come with you guys and see what I can do with my POS.

Thanks for the congrats guys! I had a blast, even if it was only 3 runs in 7 hours :( I appreciate the advice from everyone on my shifting technique, and feel like I could have shaved another tenth or two off that last run if I had not red lighted dammit! Thanks to everyone at Jack's for the strong rebuild, and to Jack for getting that video up so quickly...that was fun to watch.

My only time at the track prior to the rebuild and new e85 setup was the same weekend last year, and my best pass was 13.88@98. I went out this time with the hopes of hitting a high 12, but was going to be happy with a low 13 if that's all I could muster. First pass got me a 13.1@106, and I was pretty happy with that. After a little pep talk from the guys about not granny shifting lol, I crushed that run! Next time up I ran a 12.7@109 pass, with a 1.9 60' no less. If I can get that 60' down a couple of tenths, then I hope to be seeing a 12.4 next time around. Something to look forward to next Spring. But for now, I'm totally content with a 12sec daily driver :)

I've noticed that its shifting that is hurting most people in the 1/4. You could prolly get a 12.4 if you launched it harder and shifted better. That trap is pretty good.

If most people learned to shift (myself included), and got a good transmission, they wouldnt need to spend so much money on other mods to go fast.

Dang, Matt! That is very impressive to shank the 60' and still power your way to a 12.7 on a 16g! How much boost were you running?

JayRolla
October 27th, 2008, 11:31 AM
Thats what I want to know, how much boost, afr and timing you got running in that beast.

matthewdesigns

Thanks! I was spiking to 30+ (my gauge only reads to 30psi), holding 26ish through redline. I've got the wastegate shimmed about 5mm, and it holds much better that way. Timing tops out at 20*, and my afr's are ~11.7:1. The chip I'm using targets 20* and 11.5:1, but I've got that a bit higher with my afc cause I get a little knock at higher boost pressures (I'm on a Dejon big SMIC...I'm guessing a FMIC would cure that). I could not get my logger to cooperate Saturday, so I can't give you any airflow numbers for that run, but the last time I logged, I was seeing 36lbs/min max (that was on a cold morning about a week ago, so I was probably a little under that for this run).

JayRolla

Sweet thats pretty much my tune, except I stay around 11.1 afr and timing is at about 24* max since I dont have timing control. Thats with base timing around 4*. Now I need to get mine to the track, Im hoping for a mid 12. Just need to fix a boost leak that pops up around 15psi at the #4 injector and I dont know why, new seals and all.

Then Im going to strip some weight and see what I can do after I do a run at full weight.

Are you going to try to get to Pueblo this weekend? Or is that all to be done over the winter?

Let me know if you guys are going again this Sunday, I might put a clutch in the gaylant and see what it can do.

I think on PMI's site the last hurahh drags are on the 5th on Nov. I think thats the last event of the year.

I will let you know. I bought a compressor and have a leak tester here. If I can find anything, we might run it again.

Hey do they let your run your car with a crack in the windshield up there? Thats the only reason I have not taken it back, and that my 3rd's a little notchy.

Hemicolt

They will not let you run with a cracked windshield....I hope i can make it down for the last track day...Congrads to all that ran and nice times btw...

Here is the SC300 that ran a record run that same day:

I'm a little hurt that they didn't mention us in the credits as we helped a little too, but it's okay...
