Hey guys I mentioned a while ago that my talon was stock and the tranny was having issues...its an awd auto on my 92tsi.
heres the issues and symptoms:
-It goes into all gears fine from the shiftbox.
-It shifts hard sumtimes
-NEVER goes into 4th gear (so on the highway i'll be cruising 70mph+ on like 5k rpms!
-If the overdrive is turned off it goes intp neutral when it tries to shift into 3rd gear
-Interestingly it takes forever to go into 3rd gear no matter what...only goes into it right after 35mph....so with that in mind we were thinkin that it might be the speed sensor?
And they told me it was the end clutches on it....well we just changed those today and it didnt change one bit! I did however find that the lil gears that go inside the clutch were worn out bad and could def use the replacement i did.
ANY HELP IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED ;)

A lot of shifting issues are in the valve body itself, or the solenoids. If its the solenoids they can be cleaned and replaced. If its the valve body you need to remove it to clean it.

Gov. Pressure Solenoid or stuck valve body. I concur!

We have had this problem on 2 vehicles. In both cases the fluid was low. If you check the fluid with it running in park you can be several quarts low and it will show full on the dipstick. You need to have it in N and check it, NOT P! If it's full in N running, then I have no clue.
Also, try to brake boost it. At a stop hold the brake and floor it in D. If the RPMs stay constant you are okay with the fluid, if it fluctuates or just slips up in the RPMs after a few seconds you are low on fluid or have an issue at the pan where the oil isn't getting pumped from the sump efficiently. I know it sounds stupid but in the past 2 years we never had a car come in with a bad auto, it was always one of the 2 things mentioned above. Maybe we were just lucky, but dented oil pans and improper reading of the dipstick is a common problem.

One problem I've seen on these cars is the end clutch seals. (The o-rings that seal the whole shebang in the case) If they leak, it acts jst like a bad end clutch. I think I still have an extra end clutch assembly that you're welcome to try
I've also seen some weird issues with the t.c.u (transmission control unit)
They used the same craptastic capacitors in the tcu that they did in the ecu, and when the electrolytic goo leaks out, it can damage the circuit board leading to some weird ish behaiviour.
The tcu is located on the tranny tunnel, under the radio. Pull it out, remove the cover and inpect the board. If you see brown spooge, or it smells like sea food, that's a bad sign. I also have an extra tcu you're welcome to try.
Good luck, and let me know if you need anything.
