View Full Version : Ram Air intake plan

so i was thinking of adding this http://www.electricsupercharger.net/index.php It boost to 8 psi. It comes with a an EPROM performance chip for the Ecu and then where the fog lights are since i have no need for them and took them off. I was planing on piping a ram air in take 1-2 inch scrape of 3" pvc black pipe out of them then covering the opening with a mesh kit, then routing 3" pipping system to the electric super charger then to my air filter since they make a part for it that u can put in the front of the air filter then running it off a WOT switch. Questions are
1 Does the 01 spyder gt have room for a an EPROM performance chip and socket or do i have to buy a new ecu for it?
2 If i have to buy one how much would it be?
3 What other work would need to be done to run it safely since i was only thinking of running only 2-3 pds of boost when spraying and 5 pds of boost when im not spraying?
4 And what do u think of the idea?

Before you decide to plop down 100 bucks on a magical electric supercharger, you should do some research first.

Like what was said before, it's a worthless upgrade. Spend your money if you want. You won't need an ECU upgrade because it isn't going to give you any gains.

There is a way to make an electric supercharger that works (not that well and only for small engines, but it does work), but the tell tale sign that one DOESN'T work is if the price is less than $1000. If this is the price to order a supercharger, you can be sure that it doesn't work: http://www.electricsupercharger.net/product.php
The only real electric supercharger I've seen was a real supercharger that was run by 3X8 hp electric motors which required two or three separate deep cycle car batteries to run. Even then, they were only able to make about 6psi on a 4 banger. There is no way the electrical system on a car could keep up with the power required to run a supercharger, though.

This website looks like a full on con job. They say that "Thrasher Motorsports" got 84hp on an Acura Integra (even though suspiciously the dyno shows "Thornton" as the customer, which is the name of the company selling the supercharger. Turns out Thrasher Motorsports is a monster truck shop! The dyno is a farce!
http://www.thrashermonstertruck.com/
Of course, it should be obvious if a company is selling a supercharger for $100, but just to show you that nothing on their website is legitimate.

I'll buy it from you for $20 after it kills your alternator and you remove it from your car in disappointment!
The eRAM and it's variations *WILL NOT WORK*. It's like adding one gallon of water to the ocean, or spitting on a fish.

Yes. From what I remember reading, the supercharger can only be ran for a short time and then the batteries have to recharge. Although it would be great, there just isn't going to be free energy as the compressor wheel requires 20+hp to turn.
The best way to get power out of your engine without going to forced induction, is to increase the volumetric efficiency, which is a fancy way of saying you want to get your combustion chamber's volume to hold as much air as the same volume would sitting outside of the engine at atmospheric pressure. The easiest way to do this would be to go with a better intake/exhaust and a set of more aggressive camshafts, along with some preparation of the heads like porting, valve work, and cc preparation.
I know this isn't what you want to hear, but engines would have such things if they were legitimate.

I saw a REALLY absurd "horsepower adder" a while back (can't find it any more), that claimed 10-40 extra horsepower. It consisted of nothing more than:
Billet aluminum heat-sink, zip-tied to your A/C cold pipe.
Air hose connecting the heat-sink to your intake manifold.
You simply turn on your A/C, let it get cold, absorb all the coldness into the heat-sink and somehow transfer that cold to the air inside the hose, which doesn't flow any air at all because the heat-sink is a solid block. And several people actually BOUGHT them for $100 a pop!

Cleaned the post up a bit so it can make sense.
If you want gains, fuel, air and spark are going to get you there. Increase that, and you can find what you want. Research is where it starts, and the people on here can help you decide what you want.

A quick Google search turned up a number of dedicated 3g Eclipse forums, all of which would be a much better place to research upgrades for your car than this site, as no one here, to my knowledge, drives a third gen. I'm not trying to be a d!ck and tell you not to post here on CODSM, because you are certainly welcome to, just saying...

Your car has nothing in common with the 2nd and 1st gen DSMs. It has more in common with the non-turbo 3000GT platform, and thats just the motor. There is literally nothing on your car anything like a turbo DSM. Or a non-turbo even.
You have a straight up mitsubishi product that has a fairly limited powerplant. I'd suggest selling it and getting something with a V8 or an Evo if you want to go fast. Your car will always be slower than a stock DSM. Thats just the nature of the car you bought - not an insult.
To wit - you are not a DSM owner. You are a mitsubishi owner.

You may want to stay. That's your decision. Just to let you know though. NONE of the typical modifications or parts available for a 1g or 2g car will carryover or even come close to working on your Mitsubishi platform.
Along the same lines. You will never be able to make the Eclipse V6 make as much power as even a mildly modded DSM easily or inexpensively.

Sorry dude, you do not own a DSM. It has nothing to do with your personal opinion on what a DSM is or is not. There are facts working against you.
The DSM family of cars ended in model-year 1999 with the 2G Eclipse and 2G 3000GT. TECHNICALLY Diamond Star Motors, the joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi, was dissolved even earlier in 1993 when Mitsubishi bought out Chrysler's stake in the operation. Therefore, even the 2G cars are not true DSMs. However, because Chrysler continued to sell Mitsu cars under their own brand until 1999, the 1995+ 2G Eclipse/Talon and 3000GT/Stealth cars are still considered DSMs because they share the same drivetrain and powerplant as their 1G brothers.
After 1999, Mitsubishi and Chrysler parted ways entirely. Your 3G Eclipse has NOTHING to do with the DSM family in any way. Your car is part of a new family of vehicles based on the "Mitsubishi PS" platform, that quite frankly, nobody in the DSM community could give a crap about. You're not going to learn much about your car here.
Sorry if I sound harsh, but you joined the wrong club. I'm not telling you to leave, but if you stay, I suggest you learn proper English. Your posts are 70% spelling and grammar errors and it's mentally painful to try and make sense out of them. For example, you spelled your own screen-name wrong, if in fact you were trying to spell Grave Yard and not Gave RYard.

Wow. If I was truly "wound up fign tight" I would have told you to take your POS 3rd gen Eclipse and GTFO, instead of offering a number of websites that actually cater to your car's platform, which as stated, is in no way related to DSM's. Did you even check out any of them to see if there are regional subforums? Or notice that right on the front page of one of the sites there is a sale on a full exhaust for your car, including headers? That would certainly net you some hp gains.
Don't let the door hit you on the "tail" on the way out. Jackass.

Once again you are using abbreviations for words. k is not ok! i.e. "r u going" might be alright sending your bff a message, but here you will need to type things out. "Are you going?" is the only acceptable method for communicating on CODSM.
Not trying to pick on you, but I must enforce rules and guidelines we use around here.
