I'm seriously considering getting an EVO VIII exhaust manifold for my RWD project. I know the exhaust manifold uses the same bolt pattern as the DSM head. The stock turbo seems much better in design than most DSM units. I'm looking for a little more efficiency, and keeping the price under $1000. (hopefully around $800) Are there any aftermarket turbos that use the EVO turbine housing design? I know FP sells the turbine housing seperately. Will that bolt up to DSM or Garrett turbo designs? Is there any real advantage to doing this? Should I just stick with a DSM setup? My power goal is 400+whp in RWD on a 2.4L.

The exhaust manifold studs are in an upside down pattern compared to the DSM. It would work well, though, if you want to mount your turbo through your hood :)

The turbo is also "backwards" in configuration from the DSM models, with the compressor where the turbine would be in a DSM...

The point is that I want it facing the other direction. This is for a RWD setup. The turbo inlet needs to be on the timing belt side. I know the DSM turbo can be mounted 180 degrees, but then the turbine would be facing away from the engine. Just an engine space issue. My only other issue with not going the EVO route is that aftermarket DSM turbos are cheap(er) and have alot more aftermarket support. The twin scroll design of the EVO is appealing as well as keeping an internal gate on a 400+hp car. I'll keep searching the EVO forums and see what I can find.

I've changed my mind. It seems all the EVO tuners that want more power, seem to go with DSM or T4 type turbos. Just about every "upgraded" turbo I see, comes with a manifold to change the inlet flange. Buschur has a couple and I know someone has a 20G kit. Guess I'll just go that route.

If you want a real, brand new EVO 3 16g for $475, let me know. I just ordered 2 of them and got them in the mail yesterday ($950 for 2).

I like the garrett t3/t4's we have made over 400whp on about 4-5 different cars with them.
