View Full Version : 1G non turbo TB???

I recently acquired what I thought was a 1G non turbo throttle body (which I understand we can use for 2G turbos).. But it seems that the throttle linkage actuator (the wheel that the cable attaches to) is on the wrong side of the TB.
If I were to install the TB, I would have to somehow move the throttle cable to the front side of the intake manifold. Is this normal or do I have the wrong TB? Does anyone know which TB this is if it is the wrong one?
Thanks,
A

Sounds like the JDM N/T throttle body I have in the garage. Everything was opposite of the t/b from our N/T.

So, it's pretty much useless?

I have not really even looked it over, but yea, you would need to figure a way to re route the throttle cable at least. Mine was given to me, but after a quick look over, decided not to bother with it.

So what's the deal with the NT TB? I've never heard of using one on a 2G. If it is something that can be swapped on, let me know cause my ISC motor is bad. I have a 1G Turbo TB, but it's for another project and I don't really want to port my intake for it. Let me know what the deal is.

I've got a 1G NT TB on my 2G. It wasnt that big a deal - I'll have to take a look at it to remember how we did it.

So is there any advantage to doing this? I can get one from the bone yard for about $10, so this would be great. I know there's at least a couple in the yard I go to. Is this just the 2.0L or is the 1.8L the same? I'd asume just the 2.0L, but thought I'd ask.

The biggest advantage of the 1G NT TB is that you can attach a straight 2.5" coupler to it instead of bolting on an elbow as with a 1G T TB. Otherwise, they're basically the same.

Also, they don't have all those extra vacuum lines that most of use block off. It's just a much cleaner install overall!! If anyone has one they can get rid of, please let me know.

There are about 3-4 in Martin's Auto Salvage on 34 east of I-25. There are also a bunch of 4G-variant hyundai's. At first glance (I didn't measure them or anything...) they hyundais run a '90 1G throttle body or something very similar.
They and just about all Galants *SEEM* to run the same TPS as '91+ 1G throttle bodies. I didn't have the part number on me, so I can't verify it 100%, but I just rebuilt two '91+ TB's and the part looked identical and has the same connector. Some of the Galants and Hyundais had a similar if not identical ISC, but again I can't confirm that 100%.
This might be common knowledge that I'm bringing late to the party, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Maybe I'll head back this saturday to check it out...
