Less then 500 miles ago I replaced my plugs and plugwires (Magnecore 8.5) and now again I am getting a misfire at idle and it's hesitant under boost. I checked all of my vaccum lines and connections and I don't see anything there. Could my plugs be bad already or could it be something more like my fuel pump or coil pack?
Crappy!

Do you see any burnt spots on the plug wires from arcing? Are the plugs properly gapped still and look good?
I have heard a few people that have had bad luck with the magnecores. I'd buy a cheap set of wires form a part store and see if they fix your problem. If they do, return them and buy good ones, if they don't return them and move on down the ignition system.
Have you checked your fuel filter?

I'm going to try and check my plugs before this weekend. Come to think of it I don't remember gapping them because I could not find my gap measuring instrument. No burnt spots on the wires. The fuel filter is only 4,000 miles old so I'm pretty sure that I'm good there. I hope it's just my plugs, I'd hate to have any more problems before I put the motor into my 2G.
Thanks,
Jesse

I didn't have good luck with Magnecores. I've had much better luck with stock Mitsu wires and the NGK blue wires. I'd also recommend running NGK plugs, gapped to spec, unless you're running very high boost.

I have never had good luck with Magnecores. Did you say you never gapped them?? I think this shoudl be the first place to start! Make sure they are at 0.32 for a stock application. I have mine gapped to 0.29 (for higher boost) and it ran like a champ. But definately try some different spark plug wires if that doesn't help. My car will be down this week so if you want to come by and try my wires as a test, feel free. I'm in the Highlands Ranch area.

I'll pull it in now and gap the plugs, we'll see if that gets it done. I to am in Highlands Ranch! I'm just off of University and County Line. What do you drive?

I finally pulled and gapped my plugs to .32 and it didn't like that at all. It was popping and hiccupping even worse. I was trying to let it warm up but after a minute it the idle started to drop. Is .32 the the right gap for our plugs or no? I have the NGK 7s in it right now if that helps at all.
Thanks,
Jesse

I gap my plugs to .028 and use NGK BPR6ES on my stock 91 TSi. I think 7's are colder.
You might look at the engine in the dark while it's idling. Look for arcs near your plug wires.

.028 is what I would use for a near stock setup.
Is it missing at idle or under full load?
If its mising at idle the gap shouldnt make a difference unless its huge.
I have to run my plugs at .025 to avoid missfires at high boost. (ie 26+ psi)

Well here's the odd thing, I put these plugs and the Magnecore 8.5mm wires in maybe 500 miles ago and I didn't start having any issues until now. When it first started I could barely here/feel the miss at idle but it was apparent under boost. The car was hesitant but that's about it.
It's a first gen built six bolt but the compression is now 8.5:1 and I'm running about 14psi; I don't know if this makes a difference or not.
Some of the plugs were not very tight. After I gapped them, though, it really started to miss at idle. I didn't even attempt to drive it with it missing as bad as it was.
As far as the arching goes, I don't see an burn markes on the plug wires and you can usually hear an arch like that can't you? I'll try the looking at it in the dark if re-gapping them to .028 or .025 doesn't work. Maybe I'll just start with a new set of plugs.
Thanks,
Jesse

How did your plugs look when you pulled them? brown, white, black? That would help determine if you're running rich/lean.
I'd start with a new set of plugs gapped to .028, that's the cheapest and easiet thing to troubleshoot right now.

I agree!
They were black.
