I'm trying out a copy of this as a replacement for my Palm logger and I'm not having any luck getting it to work. Does anyone here use it, and if so could you help me troubleshoot it? I'm using a '95 eprom ECU if that matters, and the my version of the program shown to work with '95/96 ECU's.

I have it, it can be a bit of a PITA to get to work on some computers because of the (as I understand it) changes in port settings and protocals. If your using a Vista/MAC/etc try an XP computer with an actual serial port. If you want you are welcome to come by the shop and try my setup.

Thanks for the offer. I thought about trying to track down an XP laptop for it. If that doesn't work out I'll be in touch next time I'm up Denver way.

I've had it for awhile now. Don't use it a lot, but I've used it on a few EVOs and WRXs I've looked at. Haven't really tried it on a 2G since all the ones I tune are DSMLink or AEM.

There are some threads on DSMTuner about EVOScan and also MHIScan that gives some good info about it all and the 2G ECU protocols.

So I guess my first question is what are you trying to do? Log? Connect? Flash? You just said you were having trouble so I'm not sure where or what you are doing that is having issues, but I can help. :)

Thanks for the offer Chris. I am only trying to log, but I may not be able to use it at all, it seems. I've read a bunch of threads on Tuners, and tried all the other free PC logging programs out there, none of which have worked either.

I stopped by JacksTrans earlier and Kevin tried with his known good setup, and it did not work. He has a Tactrix cable as well, and it was a no-go even with that cable as opposed to the cheap cable I have. He said he's never had an issue scanning a car with it, so I'm wondering if my dual-image eprom setup is what's throwing it off. I need to write Jeff (Keydiver chips) and ask him about it.

Ya most likely that is it. I wasn't able to connect on DSMLink cars, but hadn't realized you had the keydriver chip. My bad there.

I have the Limitless 1.3U cable from the EVOScan site.
http://www.limitless.co.nz/cables/

Its basically the same thing and protocol as that Tactrix cable Kevin has so I wouldn't have made any difference.

One thing I remember reading in one of those threads, that was more along the lines of logging with the MHIScan tool, but that the '95-'96s ECU code is pretty rough. Its not till the late years when it gets better. The guy who is writing the code for MHIScan gets into the details better in those threads, but that could be an issue too.

Keep in mind USD cars have extra stuff going on and this guy is in New Zealand that writes EVOScan. So for example if you want to check the ABS computer you have to do some extra tricks because we have USD Mitsubishis. I'm not sure how different things are, but I've read in numerous posts that a lot of these hiccups are because he can't test it on USD Mitsubishis there and some of the code is different for the US.

I have a '98 TSI AWD that I will be tuning and flashing here this weekend if all goes well. The '98-'99s have a flash port. Earlier models have the ECU pins open from what I understand but lack the flash port to attach to the ECU. Which means you could go to the junkyard and pull one from a '98-'99 and then pin it into the ECU. I'll post in here what happens with it all but I've heard of others doing it and I will be this weekend finally.

Good luck with the flash! I've been keeping up with that thread as well, and it looks really promising. If I run across a '98-99 ECU for cheap I'm going to scoop it up and try it out. For now, I'll stick with my chip and Palm logger I guess.

Matthew,

What model of Palm are you using. I have been using a really old 100 and am trying to update it with something with a rechargeable internal battery. My Capacitor that is supposed to retain memory is shot and I end up having to reload everthing nearly every time I changes batteries. I have bid on a IIIc.

I'm using a IIIc Terry, but mine uses 2 AAA batteries. EDIT: I'm using a Palm IIIxe...checked when I got home. I hope I didn't just waste $5 on that cable below.

How are you getting software onto your logger? I didn't find a Palm-->Serial cable that would work, so I ended up having to use the IR ports on the Palm and my old laptop to transfer info. Now that laptop is broken, so if the Palm crashes I'm screwed. I have not looked for a Palm-->USB cable in a while, and the connector for that IIIc is so odd I didn't think I'd have any luck.

Scratch that...just found a Palm IIIc USB cable on eBay for $5 shipped. Going to try it out.
