View Full Version : Stock turbo oil feed line sufficient for a 20G?

I have a BR20G to install, and wonder if it's worth it to plumb the oil feed from the oil housing or just use the factory oil feed line from the head. I read about too much oil pressure in the housing using a redirected line (not a concern because this isn't a fancy bb housing?) but haven't heard too much negative press regarding leaving the factory line in place from the head.

Any thoughts?

Personally, I'd just run it from the stock 1G head location. There's a valve body in the head that's meant to regulate the oil pressure fed to the turbo. Why change something that works? ;)

If you are using an existing factory line I would encourage you to make sure it is in good shape. Especially make sure the oil is flowing OK and no gunk in it.

For a typical 20g install, the stock feedline and feed location will be adequate.

My only advice would be to buy a new feed line as they like to get lots of garf in them over time restricting oil flow.

It seems like the Mitsu centersections don't like that high of oil flow or pressure. Garrett CHRA's tend to be able to stand the higher pressure and flow. Especially with the "Monster thrust" mod that most turbo builders use on the Garretts now.

I don't see a problem with using the factory Mitsubishi method for lubricating a standard Mitsubishi center section. In fact, that would be my first choice.

In the case of a standard Mitsu center section, the head is fine. If you have something with a revised 360 degree thrust bearing, I'd use the filter housing.
