Hey everyone.

So last night I'm driving home from work. I do a quick shift and then hear a pop and my clutch pedal goes to the floor. I coasted to a stop and then got my flashlight out to look in the footwell and under the dash on the driver's side. Brake fluid everywhere!

My clutch master cylinder has been leaking for years, but I never got around to replacing it since it still worked fine with the occassional adding of fluid. Well apparently the addition of a 2600lb pressure plate was too much for it.

So here is your friendly reminder that the weak link in any system will fail, especially when adding performance parts. Don't be like me and wait until your shoes and under your dash are soaked with brake fluid to replace that failing master cylinder!!

Is your master the OEM or autoparts store unit? We have found here that the cheap autoparts store units fail in that way every 6 months to a year of use on a 2600. It's amazing how many customers buy those pieces of junk! They also don't seem to push as much fluid to the slave as the OEM units either. I don't know if they just use a smaller piston in those or what, but they really suck. It's definitely worth the extra money to go to the dealer and get one there, don't buy an autoparts store master!

Old one was OEM and the new one is OEM. I will settle for nothing less...

The crazy **** is, I've bought autoparts store ones back in the day that were identical in every way to the OEM unit, casting marks and all. They must remanufacture them in some craptastic fashion (no surprise).

You want a parts store timebomb? Buy a waterpump.
