I am assuming since my front shocks are leaking, they are blown...I think the car handles pretty well for what I need it for and was thinking about some stock replacements. Do you guys know what kind of longevity the stock struts have and where the best place to source some is(dealership?)? Do the springs need to be replaced at the same time? This car has about 100K miles.
Also, any recommendations on aftermarket shocks that may be superior to stock- they need to be reliable and ride well- fairly close to stock as I am not interested in having a race car on the street.

You certainly don't need to replace the springs when you replace the shocks. I replaced mine over a year ago with Tokico Illumina adjustable shocks and kept the stock springs. Found them on ebay for a good price, but not sure how they compare price-wise to stock ones.

Tokico Illumina adjustable shocks
Recommended for a 2G by RRE (oh, and me too for what that is worth).

Lots of people run Tokico Illumina's with an Eibach Pro Kit. Supposedly a very good setup for daily driving.

I had KYB GR2 struts on my 2G originally, and they were terrible - too harsh on the street and too soft at the dragstrip, and I eventually blew out both the rears from launching.
I replaced them with Illumina struts on all four corners, with stock 116k mile springs, and really like them. Setting 1 is almost TOO soft for most situations, but the range between 1 and 5 is big enough that it's almost impossible to wish I had bought something else.

FWIW Illuminas are on my upgrade list as well. After reading a lot of reviews they look to be a reasonably good choice for mostly street/occasional track use. I've seen them as low as ~$430/set of 4 shipped on eBay.

I was going to go the Illumina/Pro Kit myself, but found a sweet deal on my KSport coilovers. The KSports are kinda rough for street use, but they rock for Autox!
Steven, if you want to take my car for a spin, let me know. You can test out the different settings if you want.

Thanks Mark. When I get my car ready to drive, I'll come up and check it out maybe over the next lunch meeting so I can directly compare:)
I have a chance to get a pair of Tokico HP's of which I read they are close to a stock strut. I am thinking these would be just fine for me, although I'm a little worried about being too harsh on the street as this is purely a street car that won't be raced. I would like the Tokico Illuminas for obvious reasons, but I don't have the extra cash to spend on more than what's absolutely necessary.
Any thoughts on the Tokico blues and stock springs?(I honestly couldn't find much info. on this combo as most people run the lowered-upgraded springs also...I haven't checked Dsmtalk yet though)

Blues are closer to a stock replacement, but the drawback from them is the lack of adjustibility. Even then, stock springs should make for a good daily driver.
