I will soon install a SMIM and am looking for advice. Car is a 91 DSM with battery in stock location. 3" GM MAS is close to 2G throttle body elbow. Manifold sits about 2.5" closer to battery box and 4 inches lower than stock. It looks like I will need a tighter bend than the 2G throttle body elbow has. Do we know of someone that builds these? I don't want to move my battery. Any suggestions from those that have gone before me?

Thanks,

Terry

Remove the battery tray and charcoal filter and put the battery on the subframe.

Get some universal battery tie downs from Checkers/Pepboys

That is pretty much the cheapest way to do it.

Seth,

Thanks for your suggestion. It looks better than the other alternatives.

You can also mount the battery tray to the subframe for better support. Just drill and tap it and it will give you a better base for the battery.

JM fabrications has some nice pieces for mounting your battery to the subframe as well. I would personally go to home depot and get some metal for making brackets and do it myself.

I ended up using the original battery box and drilling and tapping holes in the sub frame. Haven't figured out how to attach a strap yet, but don't need to do that until spring race time.

I welded some universal hooks, one to the subframe the other to the frame.

O, and I used a piece of steel flatstock and just drilled some holes in it and painted, and wing nuts with washers for the strap.
