I installed my new OEM slave cylinder and master cylinder. My clutch free play is still about 3/4" out of spec (too much play) after adjusting the master cylinder rod almost all the way out. I'm assuming this is just worn clutch linkage.

I'm thinking about welding the adjustment lock nut to the bracket that it locks onto. I figure this will give me more length to adjust the free play out. I will add a different nut to act as the locknut. Does anyone see a problem with this? I figure it will give me much better disengagement because the first quarter of the pedal throw will actually be used to push fluid.

Because people may ask, the clutch fork and folcrum ball are new, as are the clutch and throwout bearing.

Thanks,

If you're going to go through the process of welding the nut, then do it right and completely rebuild the pedal assembly.

Buy the 4 bushings that support the brake and clutch pedal shaft. Buy the smaller arm that bolts onto the end of the clutch pedal crossover rod. Depending on how worn it is, buy the clutch pedal itself.

You will not be sorry you did it the right way.

I kept having issues with clutch disengagement on the old assembly (released just off the floor). I rebuilt it with all new parts and welded it. At that point, I could release the same clutch about midway to the top 1/3 of the pedal travel.

Huge difference.
