View Full Version : Installing 20G, best way to clearance oil/coolant turbo hard lines?

I'm installing a 20G, and it looks like the oil feed line from the head will need a bit of adjustment, as will the coolant line that runs to the oil filter housing from the thermostat housing.

Question is, what is the best way to bend those lines slightly without damaging them too much? I could use a pair of vice grips and a vice, but I think that would result in a crimped line where it bends.

Should I heat the line up with a small torch? Is there a nice pipe bending tool that is affordable that I don't know about?

This sounds like a newb question, but searching turned up empty.

Thanks everyone.

There are innexpensive pipe bending tools you can pick up at local parts stores like Pep Boys or Autozone that work well. They should only run between $10 and $20 or so. Or you could do what I did and cut the hard line about 8 inches after the connection and use steel braided lines in between. My new turbo doesn't use any coolant lines, so I re-routed everything using steel braided and it works great!!

Grab two sets of pliers and make a large radius bend in the line. Don't try to bend the line as far as it needs to go all in one spot and all at once.

Making several gradual bends won't kink it, nor damage it beyond use.
