View Full Version : Fogged headlights, I think they're just pitted.

So I've been using this headlight restore kit on my headlights, done about 3 treatments now and they're still not clear. They're better than they were, but not super great. I've noticed when they get wet, they act like as though they're cleared up (lens surface looks smooth, light coming out is more clear). Do I just need to keep polishing the headlights up more or could I use some clear coat paint on them to clean them up? Ideas?

What's worked for people with fogged headlights?

Have you tried wet sanding them? I would imagine you just need to get through the layer of yellowing.

I brought back a horribly pitted and discolored set from the dead by wet sanding 280 (yep, they were that bad), 400, 800, 1500, then using the last 2-3 steps in a 3M Headlight kit. I did this a year ago and they still look great. I did not clearcoat them, and have not even waxed them in the interim.

Alright cool, I think I'll just keep wet sanding them. They're looking better than they were, but they probably just need more of what I've been giving it. I've just been using a little headlight restoration kit they sell at the parts store for far too much. Will let you guys know how it goes.

I used some of the polishing compound that came with the restoration kit, they actually seem almost clear again, will see how big of a change that made when I use them tonight. I will post a full review of this product in a couple weeks after they've seen some abuse so I can see how well their polish holds up.
