I've had similar problems (on my 03 Evo) with my boost controller that Craig did a while back. In my case it's a TurboXS bleed-off....(it comes with their UTEC EMS) ... with a nasty reputation.

I'm waiting on a back ordered Hallman Pro (not too late to cancel the sale in other words).

From what I read and heard, it's a reliable unit, of course I've read and heard a lot that's not panned out over the last few years (no digs at CODSM in that :-)

Any informed opinions out there?

Please weigh-in

(BTW, I'm passing on a Forge mostly because of a recent issue that they have had with the ball or spring sticking ... I know that a lot of guys are using them and are not having any issues, ... just my choice to go with the Hallman)

Thanks
Dean

I used to have one, it worked well. I decided that I wanted to have precise control over my boost from inside the car, so I went EBC after that. I dont regret getting the EBC over the Hallman.

Hey Dean,

I ended up going with the Hallman Pro and I love it! The boost is very controllable. I find the knob adjusts boost in a predictable way. I got the in-cab version, which I should have done a long, long time ago!

I'd say you'll be happy with the Hallman.

I use a older Hallman MBC. IMO it works great running only slightly higher than stock boost levels. I've never had any problems with it...except that one time I accidentally covered up the bleeder hole:rolleyes:

I'd recommend it for at least lower boost levels. I can't really comment on higher boost levels.

Craig, I've ordered the regular model under the hood (Pro), with a separate remote cable kit.

I wanted to be able to use it both ways, I figured that was the only way to get all of the parts that I'd need for the non-remote set up. It was the same price through JSCSpeed, so I figured what the heck.

I am going to try and get the UTEC EBC feature working over the winter to compare which works best for my approach. It's more complicated and I'm trying to get some decent times this year, so I'm postponing all the set up.
By then I might be using the new Evo OpenECU stuff that Carl mentioned a while back. I just need the OBDII ..... oh yeah .... and some brains :-D

I don't know if people have been able to get more than a few extra psi
in the code, so I don't know if that solves any boost control concerns.
Dave did get the cable and code and we messed with it a bit, and it
worked quite nicely as far as just reading the image, modifying simple
stuff and writing it back in. I definitely recommend it for EVO people.

I went with the Hallman Pro for all the good reviews I read. But I have yet to use it...its going on my winter project. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The cheapest I found was on eBay. Good luck.
