My car is a 1997 talon TSI. I just bought it from a guy who had begun adding mods and then stopped,, probably for the same reasons I am seeking a real mechanic! Has 3" full exhaust, cold air intake, 1g BOV, boost gauge, EGT gauge, short shifter. Car drives really well, I think....has a few minor problems. I removed an adjustable boost valve, and plumed that line back into the BOV circuit, and now it seems to bog a little more than it did before.

The real problem is an annoying sound. Beeeeeeeeeeeepbeeeap, fairly quiet heard in the cabin. I tried to make it happen under the hood, but no luck. Its definitely more inside the cabin. Happens when coming off boost, or slowing down, or using brakes. I do not know if its related to vacuum, boost, mechanical, electronic....

Other problem is the EGT seems to be reading a bit high. However, due to a leaking valve cover, and no registration yet,, I am not driving it enough to really monitor the EGT for more than about a 5 minute jont around the block.

I dont know,, I just want it to run right, and not blow up due to over lean condition, or over boost...

If anybody knows somebody who has been through the ropes already, or a good mechanic who is good with these cars,, please let me know. I will pay to get help or have it fixed!

Thanks!

Jack's Transmissions in Colorado Springs is good but a ways away from you...not sure of anyone else around...You may just try some simple things to iron out the problems such as changine spark plugs and wires, intake tract leakdown test(more commonly called a boost leak test), check for pre-turbo intake leaks, make sure the O2 sensor is cycling nice and quickly, use a cig lighter or a piece of tissue to feel around the exhaust manifold and turbo joints for leaking exhaust, change fluids, filters and basically maintenance stuff.

Also make sure your vacuum hose routing is correct- You mentioned plumbing in your wastegate reference line into the CBV(blow off valve) line...I would not do this! Run a dedicated line from the intake manifold to your boost controller and then to the wastegate actuator or you can just run a straight line from the compressor housing to the wastegate actuator if you want to run low boost while trying to troubleshoot problems.

Thanks for the info regarding the vacuum boost plumbing. What I had done is just remove the boost control valve and reconnect the hoses using a vacuum hose connector. Is this not right? I will check tomorrow morning and see if your instructions are different from what I have.

Just by your description of the sound, I'm about 99% certain that it's the 1g BOV that making the noise.

Listen for the sound again. It only happens once per "deceleration cycle". And right around -15 in/hg. Correct?

There is something about the 1g BOV design that does that. It's not harmful in any way. Just annoying at worst.

As far as a reputable mechanic around your parts. Well I don't know of any. I do make "house calls" as I do a little side work on these things, but that would be quite a trip.

Contact me via PM or phone if you have any specific questions.
