I was wondering if anyone has a welded center diff and how bad it is for a daily driver. I dont want my stock one to explode and I dont want to pay 400+ for a TRE 4 spider.

Refused to do it on my car. My friend's just wanted to understeer all the time. It hooked up great in a straight line though ;)

Its not terrible.
Car just kind of feels heavy in turns since it always wants to understeer, unless you get on it.
Squeels the tires on tight turns.

A open diff is so much nicer to drive around with.

www.jackstransmissions.com - he is not on the forums here anymore but there's no arguing that knows his stuff about transmissions. IIRC he had a welded center (or maybe it was jus t the rear) on his circle drag car.

I've probably put more street miles on a welded center than almost anyone. It was great when I was going to the dragstrip all the time, but as soon as my track attendance dropped off I regretted it. Over the course of a few years you end up breaking almost every drivetrain component without ever launching it. It's just that hard on parts due to the binding that occurs.

4 spider center diff from tre was the most inexpensive one , compared to Jack and Shep. It did take about 2 weeks to get it back though.
