Yes its true.. the PTE diehard is trying something new. After years of supporting PTE I am going to give Innovative Turbo a try. Not sure what it is with PTE this year but it seems turbo after turbo is failing, and not just mine! I will be sending my turbo back to PTE in a few weeks, and I am sure they will take care of me, but I am a little gunshy at this point.
SOOOOOO...
I just got off the phone with Justin at Innovative. They will soon be building me a SH61 to replace my SC61. Innovative builds thier own turbine wheels, center sections, etc. When I worked with Porsches we used them quite a bit and my friend Dave has been using them for years on Audis with good results. The specs o the turbo I am ordering are still a bit up in the air, but here is the basic description of the SH61-

This Innovative Ballbearing Street Heat turbo features; ? Dual Ceramic Ball Bearing System ? ITS Big Shaft option for strength ? ITS 10 bladed Turbine Wheel ? Inconel for high EGT durability ? Redline balancing ? Highest mechanical and adiabatic efficiency available All components meet rigorous quality control, each turbo is assembled by experienced turbo technicians, taking the utmost care to ensure Innovative?s exacting tolerances are met. Innovative Turbo is the only manufacturer with line of Dual Ballbearing Turbos that can be rebuilt and upgraded.

I have heard some good things about these turbo's. I would be interested to hear your input once yu get it up and running.

Well all my experience with them has been positive, but as most anyone can tell you I generally:

-Do not like BB turbos due to the high failure rate I have observed
-Love precision Turbos because over the years they have been awesome to me in almost every regard
-Tend to support "real Garrett" over in-house pieces, of which almost everything Innovative does is designed and made by them, and not just compressor/turbine housings or a wheel here and there. They designed and manufacture thier own proprietary BB cartridge, and doesnt use any Garrett parts AFAIK.

I am not in any way saying PTE is a bad product or isnt still one of my favorite turbo suppliers, BUT the fact is this year I(and others) have had more turbo failures with PTE turbos than any other year, and I have been pressured for a couple years now to give these new Innovative Turbos a shot by a couple of friends. The fact is that SH61 just about gives me wood. A BB turbo that promises to deliver the power my SC61 gave me with a litle less lag and a bit more efficiency everywhere? Well we will see but if the maps are any indication I am going to be very pleased. Yes it is an expensive turbo, but it has super-high quality parts in it that you pay dearly for elsewhere.
I will take pictures and compare differences between the PTE and Innovate turbos and will certianly compare logs and other data between the SC and SH 61's and report my findings.

All I can say is my T04R from Full Race is the best turbo I have ever used. Both Tyler and I have done things that should have trashed it and it keeps on ticking. I am seriously considering getting an even bigger unit from Full Race now also and selling the T04R to my brother... I am also thinking of trying out their exhaust mani as well. Damn those things are expensive though...

yeah the T04R is prety nice, just wont work in my application. That Full Race mani is awesome too, but your right its pricey as hell.
I am withholding judgement on all of this until I actually have a turbo in my hands, but I am going to send them a couple of turbos to rebuild and modify for me, so we will see when they get here!

I am currently looking for a GT40 as an upgrade to my T04R, so if they look good, let me know :)

Jack, do you have any 'hook-ups' for getting Garrett turbos? I have a 60-1, but I'm thinking about a T67.

Mike, if you go *big* power you'll want to upgrade, but if the 60-1 is already installed I wouldn't take it out anytime soon. They are old-school and a bit inefficient all over the map, but on low-boost, big-displacement combos they are not a bad choice.

Mike, a T04R (T67 or 67 "trim" - it's 67mm, some people say "trim" without realizing a trim is a ratio) with a P-trim turbine will not set you back too much. Shouldn't really need a "hook-up" unless you are going ball bearing or something (bleh).

No, not anymore. I have tried to get away from the turbo side of the business. I always lost money in it :(

I have a Full Race T67 T04R with the T04S housing, P-Trim turbine wheel and their HO turbine housing which is a T3 inlet, 4-bolt outlet, and .83A/R I believe. I am going to sell it soon. My brother appears to be interested in it, but if not, if you want a used unit for cheap, I might be willing to work out a deal. The unit is in perfect condition, and is definitely well made. I really want to upgrade to the GT4088. As soon as I find one at a good price, I will sell the T04R... I might sell my ram-horn exhaust mani with it too if you need a T3 mani. Shoot, I'll sell the 3" downpipe too. Bah, I don't know...

Jack

Oh, if you are running low boost, the T67 is not the best turbo for you. Below 24PSI on my car (2.3L stroker/272cams) it sucks. Above 24 though and it's pretty nutty. Tyler (outlaw) has been watching some Full Race GT35R turbos on sale lately. Maybe he will chime in...

10psi on a 5.7L w/ 10.5:1 static compression - still not a good choice?

I really don't know with those... I do though have a bunch of divided large T4 and T3 housings here if you need it for your V engine. I believe they go from .83-12X or something. I think my T04R housing is too small for you.
