...What would you buy and from where would you buy it?

The Megan Racing stuff on eBay is tempting, but I'm reading about fitment issues.

I like the Apexi N1 setups. They flow decently and sound differently (not bad) than every other system on the market.

I've always had and will probably always run the Thermal setups. They only have catbacks available, but you can mate just about any long downpipe up to them (for catless operation) with no hassles.

My gripe about 90% of the ready-made catbacks though is the front flange size.

Just about every one out there is designed to bolt up to a factory cat. Great for installs on a stock car mainly for sound, but crappy for anything performance related.

Be ready to modify any ready-made catback if you decide to go that route for a true 3" or 2.5" setup.

I have a Megan long downpipe and a Thermal catback on my GS-T and it is louder than most on the market. Probably just because it has no resonators, thinwall stainless tubing and a single straight through muffler.

Just my 1 1/2 cents.

Marcus

Any experience with the Dejon setup? Seems to be awfully cost-effective.

I have an Apexi N1 on my car and it sounded quite nice when the car was together and running. Nice and deep and wasn't obnoxiously loud either. My neighbor's Evo with a 3 inch HKS was way louder at idle. He actually liked the Apexi sound better when he first heard it. The Apexi downpipe does delete the cat though if you care about that.

If the dejon setup is built anything Ike their ic pipes, I'd pass if I were you.

The piping itself is good quality, but where it matters (i.e. Flanges) they lack.

Have a link to the dejon setup you're looking for?

If you buy the Megan catback, downpipe and there test pipe you will have perfect fitment.

My brother runs the dejon catback on a megan downpipe. Fitment was almost perfect.

I'll have to look into that one.

It's not stainless - not sure that matters to me here in CO.

Seems like I can find the whole thing on eBay for just a little more than the Dejon setup.

Forgot to mention - I'm outside of the emissions zone. My GTO has no cats and the Talon isn't going to, either.

I still after all these years prefer the old "roots" of this club 3" turbo to tip exhaust. :)

http://www.stevetek.com/R-DIY_Exhaust.html

I don't have the 3" exhaust I made 10 years ago, but it is still one of the best sounding exhaust setups I've heard and it is on a CODSM member car (Evo9MRTT or something?) still now. Just not mine because I needed bigger. Shawn Moss is still running his original one too from 10 years ago running low 11s and sounding great! Can't go wrong and its cheap! Plus it was a good laugh to see this link again. FYI we all did mild steel with no issues 10 years later.

Me, Kenny, and Erron all still have welders. Me and Kenny have made a few other sets of these over the last few years so I'm still in practice of doing it. Let me know if this is an option you'd like help with. I'll help ya if you want.

Here is a decent sound byte vid of it I guess. Erron is doing the commentary.

Wierd I remember looking at the 'stevetek' site way back when I was still in maine, and now I am in fort collins haha. That was the same response I had when I went to a bbq at a shop in loveland I think and met jake latham who's blog I had followed years earlier in maine... small world!

I work with Steve. I'll let him know his site came up; he doesn't get on here much. He'll get a kick out of it.

Ask if he is hiring while you are at it ;) I have no idea what you do but local engineering jobs are pretty sparse right now and I don't want to move haha.

You're mechanical, right? We do have a package design group, but I have no idea if they're hiring or not. Word is we will be hiring in the upcoming year, but I have no idea what sort of mix of jobs or how soon we'll be opening the reqs.

Yeah, mechanical. It was mostly a joke but if it actually leads to employment I'm all for it :D

Depending on how much labor you want to put into this, it may be cheaper to get a welder and piece together the piping yourself. You can get an electric welder for like $150 if you know where to look or like $300 at Home Depot.

Oh, and the term is "turbo-back" or "cat back" depending on where the exhaust system starts.

I second the Thermal...my favorite option by far.

I'm not just saying that because I have one for sale...I'm only selling because I don't have anything to put it on.

Is that Thermal a 1g or 2g AWD setup?

If it's a 1g, let Mike have first dibs. If it's for a 2g, I want first dibs :D
