I am saving to buy a new transmission as we speak and am planing on getting stage 2 at least. My question is where do I get it from? I am looking for others exp with places like sheps, tre, dogbox or jacks? So if you have one of these tranny's please tell me what you think i want to get the best stage 2 from some where.
Ps. I have a 95 eagle talon tsi awd s16g @15psi but plan on going up to 24 psi, exhaust fmic

I beleive Jack is the cheapest, and since he is local it will be much easier to get warranty work done to it. Pretty sure this has been covered multiple time though. Quick search on dsmtuners, here and what not could answer your questions.

Since we are talking transmissions, I too have been saving to get my 96 gst tranny rebuilt. It’s got a stock turbo and I don’t have huge plans for it so I’m going with jack’s 1.1 economy build and I’m debating on getting the EvoIII 5th gear and wanted to know if it’s a noticeable upgrade that is worth the extra bit of cash. Thoughts? Thanks.

Considering the RPM's these car run cruising down the freeway at 75 mph I would get it, unless of course you mainly do city driving and highway's with speed limits of 65 mph.

Fwiw its worth my jack tranny held over 500hp and multiple 11 second passes.

It's not so much on what "stage" a transmission is to hold the power. It's more in how you drive it and apply torque.
I'm living proof of that. Numerous 10 second drag runs and 600+ whp power levels on stock transmissions with only 4-spider centers as the only mods. Typically my "race" transmissions consisted of being 2 or more junkyard transmissions torn down with the good parts making up one good trans. They didn't shift well at high RPM, but they got the job done.
I can break just about any transmission out on the market with as little as a 16g for power. Again. It's all about driving style.

Very true. All builders use the same oem shafts. The only thing making one "stronger" then another is how new the parts are, and any additional treatment to the gears (aka micropolish, cryo, etc)

I do all my own rebuilds, usually after inspection it's new syncro blocker rings, bearings, etc and total clean up. Bearing preloads make a difference in longevity too. I learned also that a center diff modification is necessary for drag racing if you launch the car hard.
All said , after a trans rebuild they do shift like they are supposed to .
