When starting with an original turbo mirage and wanting to swap in a 4g63, do you have to use a FWD trans or is it possible to use a awd trans with a welded center? and if so what mounts are needed and any other special things to consider like axel info.
Thanks

Those links partially answered my question, but not completely. I did some searching and couldnt find exactly what I need to know.

In short you can run an awd tranny with a welded center you would use the colts or mirages axles and use the awd tranny mount...Also make sure to use the mirages motor mounts front and rear....Also use a fwd flywheel unless you swap out the starter plate for an awd one..

The starter plate and flywheel needs to match the trans. You can't use a FWD flywheel with AWD trans. The reason the AWD FW is smaller in diameter is to clear the output shaft and bell housing.
You should talk to my brother. He found a way to use bigger axles in a FWD car using the AWD trans. I don't remember how he did it, but he ended up using parts from 2G axles and somehow was able to get them to fit a 1G. He modified part of the case to fit them and used some custom made seal for the drivers side so it all fit right. He has been doing a lot of weird stuff with them. Last week he finished making a DSM AWD trans to work in a RWD kit car, so he knows a lot about axles and 2WD conversions for AWD trannies.

Good call on the flywheel and bellhousings i always forget...:o
The oem turbo axles on the csm's are pretty beefy haven't seen one fail yet, crusherbaits on oem's and he produces a good amount of torque and runs a meaty slick...Just a thought....

You thinking of going to a fwd platform? Your set-up from your 2g would be insane in a ****box......

I'm thinking of putting my 1g's setup in a mirage (6 bolt 4g63, 2g pistons, 1g rods, 14b, basic bolt-ons setup)
I think I'd have more with an AWD and a FWD rather than 2 AWD cars.
