So this seems like a stupidly simple question but I have not had any luck finding an answer.

I had a Autometer Phantom boost gauge installed in my car. The hose broke near the gauge and now I am trying to get it back together...unfortunately I can no longer fit the hose through the tiny brass (copper?) ball that goes between the fittings. I guess it compressed too much and now when I try to get it on, it just ends up cutting the hose. Any idea where I can get a new ball that will actually fit around the hose? Thanks!

You might be able to find some at Ace Hardware, Home Depot or Lowes. Look in the plumbing department for the compression fittings and you should find those ferrules there. Hopefully they have the size that you need.

If you can't find just the ferrule you can usually buy another whole brass compression fitting for a couple bucks with a fresh one inside. Unfortunately those little things are not reusable.

Thanks guys! It was much easier to locate after finding out it was called a ferrule! I ended up getting one at Napa...didn't have time to try it tonight but it looks like it is the right one!
