I am getting this weird problem which is preventing me from finishing this engine install. When I start the car it runs fine and idel's well. I can rev it up with no problems and overall the car sounds great. When I go to take it for a drive I can boost in first gear but in second it spits ans sputters and refuses to accelerate. It then has a lumpy idle like it is running on three cyls. Then after about 2 mins it goes back to the nice smooth running motor it should be. I removed the spark plugs to inspect and two of them happen to get the tips bent. No clue how this happens but it seems to happen randomly because each cyl has done this to at least one plug. I have not tried new wires yet but I have replaced the plugs many times. This is a stock car. Any idea on how my spark plugs can get bent and what is causing this problem.

Thanks!

I am using the standard, NGK BPR6ES.

Is the little washer on them? It sounds like they are making contact with a piston either because they are screwed in too far or someone gave you the wrong plugs with a longer extrusion. The randomness in the cylinders could be resulting from the direction the plugs are facing when they are installed. Do you still have the stock compression pistions?

Well this engine is actually a Jap Spec so it its the original pistons but its not the the same compression as a 1g (i think). Now that you mention it, it does seem like you have to screw in the spark plugs rather far. Would it be safe to add some washers and see what happens?

Yea, I'd definately give that a try or grab some BPR6S (no E) the E (extrude?) plugs have a .750" reach and the non E plugs are .472". If that engine has higher compression pistons with a dome on the crown they could be kissing your plugs :D
