View Full Version : Engine Turnaround time?

Does anyone know offhand what the turnaround time (approximate) for an engine (2.4L G4CS) rebuild from Jack M. is? It will be a slightly over stock (rods & pistons) rebuild. I know it would be best to call him, but as of right now, the only free time I have is either too early or too late to call. I will be able to call in a few weeks though if nobody has an answer.

He's open til like 11pm Tues/Sat I think. You might also just leave a message. I'm sure he has that technology by now. :) Turnaround time will also depend on who does your block and crank work. He out sources that stuff and they might be busy. Just call him already. 719-243-5305 :D

Someone mentioned that he caught his hand in a drill press, so his present turnaround time may be a little slower. Hope you're back to normal quick, Jack, if you're reading this!

He built 2 engines for me. The first one took like 5 months. The second one took about 2. The second one I was insisting that he got it done in under a month. He has a lot of work and I really hope he didn't hurt himself.

Just joined! Thanks! Yeah, I got hit pretty hard and the cut started to get gangrenes (I had a whole-saw try to go through my hand). It got to be pretty scary and I had to pull a bunch of stuff out of the hole in my hand over a week ago for it to heal right, and now it's really good. It's nice having a lot of good friends in the medical field. After going through some nasty pain digging all the dead stuff out, in about 3 days it looked almost completely healed, lol! I've had accidents that I thought were worse that didn't have parts of my hand start to die away, but I guess this one just got it deep enough...

Yeah, engines take me between 1-2 months now. With the new equipment I have been buying here lately it makes me a lot less reliant on other people now.

Note: I will be gone next week- June 3rd-13th. A customer is paying me big money to fly out to his car in Nevada to do a timing belt change. All expense paid trip to Reno and Vegas for 10 days just couldn't be passed up. Shoot...I haven't had a vacation in at least 8 years :)

Note: I will be gone next week- June 3rd-13th. A customer is paying me big money to fly out to his car in Nevada to do a timing belt change. All expense paid trip to Reno and Vegas for 10 days just couldn't be passed up. Shoot...I haven't had a vacation in at least 8 years :)

That's awesome, I think you've found your niche, $2500 timing belt house calls :-).

Yeah really. This guy is some robotics engineer or something who had me change his starter out here in the Springs over a week ago. I put a used starter in there, because he had to make his trip to CA. I was just going to charge him $40 for the whole thing including the used starter I had in stock, but he gave me $200, and said keep the $160 tip, lol! Next thing I know he's calling me from Reno NV. with a broken timing belt. What's weird is he's a Ford Taurus SHO customer, not DSM. We also work on SHOs here, but I never advertise it. His starter went out on him down the street from us and he found us by accident. SHO owners are usually very well off though, (you know Gary M., Carl) so maybe I should focus more on those guys. I noticed a lot of guys in the engineering field own SHOs and love them to the point that they will pay just about anything to keep them going. They have a very hard time finding people that know anything about them, and can find parts for them. Shoot, I learned almost everything I know now from rebuilding SHO trannies 10 years ago. Those cars are almost as unreliable as DSMs, so it might be a good business to get into. That's funny, I'll start a new business repairing broken/discontinued SHOs nationwide for a 'small' fee, lol!
